just to say thanks to everyone who replied here - lots of food for thought - I have (if I can make it!) a first gig coming up soon and I think you've all convinced me to play live rather than mix, or at least do some kind of hybrid performance (where performance is the key word, rather than just pla...

can't help with specifics of BCR as I've never bothered configuring it - just plugged it into live and let live do the learning. however I will suggest that if you're following the manual and not doing anything stupid, it is possible that its broken. my first one didn't work out of the box, had to s...

ok, so I guess I should check out Chrystal Distortion or 69db (not heard of them before) and underworld (seen the guy dj but not live). but surely there must be some live techno makers reading this? do any of you feel that your live set is really better than your produced works? if so, how do you ma...

Re: live techno sucks - discuss (please, this is not a troll!)

are you talking 'techno' as in proper banging techno, or just using the word 'techno' when really u dont really know what techno is and are using it to basically group all electronic dance music together? I know what techno means, however I have yet to hear anyone talk about "live house",...

don't get me wrong - I mean I was a big fan of Orbital - but I wonder what they (and everyone else) gained from live techno apart from the showmanship (obviously it helps when you have stack loads of gear and an endless supply of torch batteries :D ) and i'm trying to figure out what to work on myse...

live techno sucks - discuss (please, this is not a troll!)

Ok, so what I mean by the topic is that however many scenes/follow actions you use to accurately co-ordinate things, a live techno performance is never going to sound as good as a traditionally produced track, where you can spend as long as you like perfecting the breaks, the drops and whatever else...

can't be bothered to get into the whole artist compensation argument right now, but... DRM This one is a no-brainer. It will never completely work. There will *always* be a way to get around it (see if you can find anything to read on the subject by Bruce Schneier or Ross Anderson for example). So b...

anyone checked out seq24? http://filter24.org/seq24/ yup, made loads of stuff with it. the only reason I switched to windows is... Live. It's better than all the linux stuff put together. Linux audio is still not quite there in some ways (muse for example is about on a par with early cubase vst, wh...

um... can't you set a maxumum cache size in preferences somewhere? thus limiting the max size of all your decoded wavs. then if your pc is fast enough (which it probably is) it will effectively decode on the fly - probably your HDD has an internal cache of a few MB so performance won't suffer too mu...

what martian said

I've had lots of fun with a cheap old sony minidisk and ecm907 (i think) sony stereo mic. Actually the mic broke while riding an elephant but it was still under warranty :) Certainly the sound won't have the same quality as some other solutions but I really don't think you can beat it for the price....

can't say i know much about this, but as far as i'm aware, binaural beats have been proven to 'set' the brain's clock frequency (for want of a better word) if you listen to them for a couple of minutes. I'm not sure any health benefits have been proven, though there may be some, it sounds like a rip...

Re: Depression lifting..............

Hi nice track. I can't comment specifically on that mix, but I'm trying to learn something about mix/mastering myself and thought i'd just add a couple of things I learned : 1. what forge said about EQ. I think a lot of mixing (and electronic songwriting) is about separating sounds - in frequency (w...
