Re: Best way to prevent clipping?

Hello,

I always try to make sure that none of the gain stages clip (unless I do want digital clipping) - gain stages in some VSTs or AUs don't handle clipping as well as Live's mixer.

Cheers,
Moritz

Re: Is there such thing as a music key analyser?

http://www.mixedinkey.com *shudders* It's cool for those non-musician DJs, I guess... the rest of you should try to give your ears a chance. And maybe listen to some different music for once. Because this: Little hint, 99% of the music we hear today (generally speaking) is in one of four modes- maj...

Re: Live Suite's orchestra versus East West

More expensive doesn't have to be better. Personally, I think the Vienna samples are a tad overpriced. And you have to give them a lot of work and editing until they sound as fat as EWQL and the likes. ProjectSAM (who produce Symphobia) have an Orchestral Essentials pack too which has some neat stuf...

Re: Live Suite's orchestra versus East West

Hello, Are you referring to the EIC2 content? I own the EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Gold XP - there's a lot more Round Robin, Legato and articulation patches for brass and string there, so you can definitely make it sound a lot more realistic. One thing that's bothering me is that there's a lot of reve...

Re: Tech House Kick

Hello, Applying some gentle saturation and a bit of pitch and volume envelope to a clean 909 kick sample yields pretty similar results. The question how to get that kick to sit in the mix like this is much more interesting, though. After all, the kick does work well in this track - but in a differen...

Re: Progressive Trance Questions

plenty of people dance to stuff thats well beyond 1234, lots of dancehall, brazilian funk, reggaeaton, the spawns of jungle and garage. and so on. the doof doof trance vector is one massive amongst the many. trance isn't 4/4 because its populist, its 4/4 because it is. it means I don't like it, but...

Re: Progressive Trance Questions

i can think of lots of rhythmically complex musics that developed from more simple ones. It all starts with the heartbeat and a simple pulse after all. I guess it would be more accurate to suggest that rhythmic complexity peaked earlier. At least on a cultural level, there really hasn't been anythi...

Re: Progressive Trance Questions

I am as obsessive about Kraftwerk as I am about James Brown. But Kraftwerk were cultured enough to realise the importance of James Brown - a massive influence on them, even though some feel uncomfortable with this and like to think they emerged from a Rhineland steel plant fully formed... Seems we ...

Re: Progressive Trance Questions

You just keep going, huh? ;) Beatmunga, here's the thing that's bugging me about your argument and it's why I didn't think this is a discussion worth pursuing at all: As long as no-one's saying "black people can't dance to this", or "white people listen to this kind of music", I ...

[...] all that pop music that drug users and non whites listen to. I don't know if Andrei tried to imply this or not, but he did not write that. You started talking about "black beat makers" and "white keyboard wizards", beatmunga - and normally, that's my cue to leave a discuss...

Re: Progressive Trance Questions

Thats incredibly unfair. Mpgk was being really patient with an extremely rude individual and opted out the moment the thread turned into a discussion on the merits of Jackboot trance. The question of where a music comes from isn't easily answered. Yeah you could say Detroit, but its just as easy to...

I don't even know how to react to what happened to this thread. I'm really embarrassed.
Are you two even talking about music? Or just about what kind of people are listening to it, their skin color to boot? You're both awful snobs, each in his own right. That's all I will say on this matter.

Re: Progressive Trance Questions

that's idiotic, none of that is what any of those genre means and trance is far from popular...Everybody I know considers my music "hipster" because it isn't being played on mtv u. Electro does not mean using electronic sounds, if you said electronica then yes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...

Re: Progressive Trance Questions

1. Ok, why not just call it by the letter name instead of confusing numbers? Because it's easier to think of abstract intervals - especially when you compose your next tune in a different key. I could of course say Bb is the avoid note in D natural minor / aeolian, but saying b13 is the avoid note ...
