Re: How is Live 8 with vista 32bit?
works pretty good on my machine (on vista business sp2), not having any major problems at all, and given I only have a 2ghz processor I'm actually rather surprised at that =]

Re: Good studio monitors?
Yeah, it's all about taste, I listened to a bit of Golide on them in the shop and compared it to the KRKs and they were much punchier and had a way less muddy bottom end, so I bought them =]

Re: Controller Recommendation for DJ's Part 2
the BCR2000 is pretty good, I got one the other week and it makes playing sets waaay easier, there's enough knobs to assign a whole bunch to FX (I like to stick the left hand ones at the bottom on the EQ3s on my first few tracks, pretty useful!), and the buttons can easily be used to start/stop trac...

Good studio monitors?
Can anyone recommend some decent quality studio monitors that I can get a pair of for under/around £5/600? I currently do most of my mixing on headphones because I quite like the noise cancellation effect, however this is starting to make my ears hurt after long sessions, so I'm looking to get some ...

Re: OT Honesty about UK and Canadian Health Care
Never had anything done myself (although I have a torn shoulder that needs attending to), but my Dad had cancer last year and they got him in for treatment very quickly and fixed the problem almost before it'd all sunk in! The NHS is good if you have something major wrong with you but if it's someth...

Re: New Laptop (Firewire PCI expresscard ? )
Samsung do *very* nice laptops for the price, I got a q210 for about £570 a year ago (2Ghz C2D, 3Gig ram, 320gig 7200rpm hdd, vista home premium) and it's easily comparable to a much higher priced sony or asus, I'm really happy with it, although the tiny screen can be a bit of a pain if you don't ha...

Re: new akai controllers
Is there an equivalent to the BCR2000 that has clicky buttons built into every knob? (not the technical terms but waay more amusing)
It'd be good to be able to switch each band on an EQ3 on and off simply by pressing it's relevant encoder!

Re: How do you go about writing lyrics?
I always find it's way easier to write lyrics when I'm 3-4 beers in and can sit with a guitar or keyboard and smoke (chiche, but fuck it). But if you're sat really trying to write good lyrics I always find they come out like crap, the best stuff I write comes out when Im, just humming some tune in m...

+1 to the Alienware.
I have a 3 year old m5550 and it's actually way faster than my 6month old samsung (which is better on paper).
word of warning though, alienware laptops *will* overheat without a cooling pad of some sort!

Re: Best Audio Interface
I have a pro40, and having used both it and some (near-)comparable M-Audio products, I reckon the focusrite is the way forward. (I had issues with both the m-box that I had [that was a while ago though] and a ProjectMix when using ableton, some driver incompatibilities that they couldn't solve.) Alt...
