Re: Compressors - Your preferences and suggestions?
Given that these are all different, I figure that each one must have its own place in the world and have certain types of application (eg. vocals, drums, master bus) where it really shines. So can you comment on one or more of the above 5, saying which kind of applications/situations you find that ...

Re: Ableton reverb is not that bad!?
I think we are agreed far more than we are disagreed. Indeed, I am not sure we are disagreed at all. Yes, it would be better if a convolution reverb were included native in Live instead of being an add-on via M4L. No argument there whatsoever. I also agree that Live's versioning system—or lack there...

If I have a set with nothing but Convolution reverb in it. I put that set on my desktop, close Live and click that set to open it = 60 seconds If I have a set with nothing but Reverb in it. I put that set on my desktop, close Live and click that set to open it = 6 seconds On my 12" MacBook wit...

Re: Ableton reverb is not that bad!?
Has any user made a startling variant of the M4L convo reverb? It's like making a car out of Lego, impressive that they could do it but I wouldn't want to use it in a street-race. Quick follow-up to my previous (rather lengthy) post... You have your analogy backwards. It isn't Max that is the Legos...

Re: Ableton reverb is not that bad!?
Yep, the Convolution Pro reverb is very good but it's a real shame it's not a native device because convolution is notoriously resource intensive ... and there's surely some additional M4L resource overhead. Surely a good Reverb unit is a core music making tool and so worthy of a dedicated device -...

Re: Issues with warping imported waves
Hello, I did some recordings at my friend's studio, where he uses protools, and brought the wav recordings over to my ableton, and even though I have the auto-warp long samples box checked off, the samples are all still warped uniformly (the pro-tool samples match in length, but do not match the ab...

Re: Can I get a call and response - Csound or SuperCollider?
Depending on exactly what you are trying to do, and given that this is an Ableton forum, I would humbly suggest that you seriously consider Max (for Live) from Cycling ‘74 (and Ableton). I too come from a maths/coding background, although mine happens to be in sound synthesis and analysis. I played ...

Re: OSCiLLOT
So is the quality of sound you make with your patches reminiscent of the sound you can hear in the demo videos and Soundcloud examples? I immediately recognise a digital quality that I don't like from all other Max For Live synths that I've tried or heard. That seems inevitable with MFL synths. Wha...

Re: OSCiLLOT
the reason i'm posting things here is to get the idea of how stable oscillot seems to other users cause my personal experiense with it is extremely poor, i hardly can use it at all, with all respect to Christian tho, he does impressive work My experience with OSCiLLOT has been rather good. Re: OSCiLLOT
Are you using the latest version of OSCiLLOT? Version 1.1.2 came out only a few days ago, and according to at least one post in the OSCiLLOT forum on the Max for Cats site, it fixed someone’s long-standing crashes. The latest version should be available from your account page on Ableton’s site. That...

Read Dennis DeSantis's book Making Music: 74 Creative Strategies for Electronic Music Producers. It might as well be subtitled 74 Strategies for Getting Out of a Creative Rut.

Re: Just getting started! New toys?
FWIW, here are my recommendations: 1. Yes, by all means, buy Live Suite. 2. Buy a Push 2. If you are going to buy into the Ableton ecosystem, do it the right way. At this point I do 90% of my music production directly on the Push, without even looking at my MacBook screen. 3. Read the Live/Push manu...
