Re: Proudly collecting music gear and software for no purpose

I find myself craving a hardware synth more and more. I've realised that whenever I have a moment to spare, I'm not really making music, I'm just playing around with sounds, so I figured I might as well do that without starting a computer and launching Live. But even though synths are not as out of...

Re: Proudly collecting music gear and software for no purpose

I think Akai has dropped the ball for some time now. If you’re using Live there’s probably nothing interesting in their entire catalogue for you, especially since Push 2 is no longer made by them. Ableton and Novation make much cooler MIDI controllers. Korg, Elektron and Roland make much better groo...

Re: Macs: Do you have trim on your third party SSD?

In my experience even a regular 7200 RPM HDD is fast enough to run most sample and audio-based stuff just fine, especially if you have enough RAM as well. Why would you want to do that to yourself? Everything is faster with an SSD, including graphics. Yeah I actually have an SSD which is very nice....

Re: Macs: Do you have trim on your third party SSD?

You may nor may not know that there's something called trim , that is implemented on SSD drives that Apple puts in their MacBook Pros. In older machines you can still add a third party SSD. I got a 1tb Crucial M500 2 years ago and have so far not activated trim. There are plenty of high quality art...

Re: No new betas since 9.7.1 - Live 10?

“The new version would go to ten. Look, right across my laptop and desktop, ten, ten, and...” “Oh, I see. And the current version is nine?” “Exactly.” “Does that mean it's more? Is it one version more?” “Well, Live 10 would be one more, wouldn’t it? It's not nine. You see, most blokes, you know, are...

A (probably) common experience with Push

Spend three days reading about and superficially experimenting with all the things Push can do then never touch it again and spend your time complaining about a lack of features that you’d probably never use but still somehow need because you're now officially a power user with hyper specific needs....

Re: iPad

I never really had a problem hearing what happens around me even with both EarPods. They have a pretty open design and don't really block outside noises. But I guess the AirPods are probably great for you. If you use only one at a time you can charge the other at the same time and actually use them ...

Re: iPad

I can’t believe I’m actually pondering getting Apple’s Airpods if they actually ever release them. Most of my earphone listening while moving around is podcasts so overall sound quality isn’t that big of a concern. Convenience and not dealing with wires is. They are expensive but from what I’ve see...

Re: I want to quit.

I think there’s a fundamental misconception about what art in general and especially music is and how you can get money out of it. Fundamentally, making music is a craft like any other. And as with any other craft there’s only two ways to make money: Either you get somebody to pay you to do it, that...

Re: I want to quit.

I think the fundamental problem with monetization of music if that there’s far too many musicians and not even remotely enough potential revenue for everyone. The business model is changing but the fundamental problem is still the same. Back in the day with the music industry you had a couple...
