Re: Live 8 is a little too much for me
White MacBook, Live 7, Reason 4, Max 5, Monome 64, Evolver Desktop You're using Max and finding the Live 8 upgrade too much? Blimey! How much have they put in Live 8 then?!?! :D Streamline your set-up I say: by ditching Reason, Max and the Evolver  Me, I will hold fire on upgrading til I get t...

It's a bit difficult to compare like-for-like in use, as the APC isn't out yet.
I don't mean that sarcastically, I just mean that all you can really expect at this point is speculation.

Re: Melodies
"Music is an art form whose medium is sound organized in time." Wikipedia isn't always the best resource, but for me this opening line from the page on 'music' pretty much sums up my own definition of the term. My own 'music' doesn't always contain melody. Often, I'll use found sounds as b...

Re: Why do people love step-sequencing?
The advantage I see of step sequencers is being able to turn steps on and off on the fly. If, say, you tap in a drum pattern using Drum Racks the pattern is static. The componant sounds in the pattern will be triggered in the same place each time the pattern loops. With a step sequencer you can tur...

Re: OT-SXSW 2009 Recommendations
My old band, Autons, told me they were due to play SXSW 2009. However, I have since found out that there is a band from Texas also called Autons who are confirmed for SXSW. So, I think my old band may have been pulling my leg :D I am going to bring this up with them when I see them next. If my old b...

Re: Movie: slumdog millionaire
I saw it post BAFTAs but pre-Oscars. With all the hype, I thought it would be disappointing. How wrong I was. Best film I've seen in ages too. My only quibble is that the ending is too neatly tied up and 'Hollywood'. Also, first film in a LONG time where the music enhances the images to the point wh...

OK, let's go with the hammer comparison. The money I make is as a carpenter so (I spend it making music and art and occasionally climbing a cliff or mountain) I know more than a bit about tools. You buy a hammer once . It is always a hammer and, if you buy a good one, it will never break or stop be...

Ableton really can't please anyone, can they? On the one hand, we have threads on this forum complaining that the Live package is overpriced, and you don't get enough content compared to Logic etc. On the other we have a thread like this where someone is complaining when they DO give something away ...

I feel ashamed to teach Computer assisted music running Ableton software, and that's what I'm doing now, though, while I wish I could teach my students how to use Logic Express, that's better featured as the ableton suite is, with a 200 Euros price tag. Out of interest, if you feel that way, why ar...

The UK is so hypocritical it matters such as this. I am an atheist, and I think this guy's views are apalling. However, if this was a film slandering Christianity then the guy wouldn't have been banned. Like I say, I think the film is appalling. But you defeat extremists by exposing the weakness of ...

Hmm well you have been trying to persuade a Live user to use Live  Indeed. Tell you what... here's where Ableton are missing a trick. They should drop the price of the Suite to £100, but remove one feature: session view. Then perhaps everyone will be happy and they will have a whole load of n...
