Well, it can be possible to use slightly more intricate rhythms and stronger bass without it becoming "schizo". And try the just Drums and Bass thing, that generally works quite well. Just one question, are you using pre done loops, or is it all self programmed/played?

I think you need more hardcore kind of sounds, and a faster tempo. Try also more snare fills and manic stuff.
