Re: set up harddrives and partitions for best performance

if you have one harddrive, just use one partition. separate partitions create borders between the different parts. that result in a forced needle jump when ever you want to cross the border (so system accesses some system file on c: and you want some data on d: => jumping around all the time. if you...

Re: AppleTV. Mr. Jobs, you've done it. Again.

i had opera mini on my regular sony ericsson non-smartphone, and it worked well. used that for years. that and other apps (yeah, dumb-phones have apps, too). but yeah, the default browser of windows mobile is absolute crap. gladly, on my not-yet-winphone7 phone, i have opera mobile on it, that works...

3phase, don't fill this thread with critiques, that's not its purpose. just like you don't want anything else BUT critique in your critique thread (which mostly only you fill, unlike here where everyone contributes). and btw, the groove works great. it might be that the transient detector doesn't wo...

Re: What will happen in ten years?

one thing that i'm curious about is, how does indy-software development look like in the future? if you look at nowadays iphone apps, you see much more small developers doing quick tiny tools they need. that would not have been possible that easily years ago. so if software development for the ordin...

Re: What will happen in ten years?

I’m not looking forward to it, in fact it would be pretty sad if an awesome company like Ableton lost momentum but especially as a product that focuses on simplicity, workflow and anti-bloat I already feel like Live is “near” perfect and anything you could add would just bloat it. I don’t know abou...

Re: What Pieces of Hardware Will Be Classics in 5/10 years?

well, i see tons of quite famous people having used it. but yeah, it's not that famous. then again, what gear we talk in here is famous outside the musician world anyways? not much. and who cares if the newbies of the future don't know it? that's where the then elder ones come in and can talk endles...

Re: What Pieces of Hardware Will Be Classics in 5/10 years?

the lemur. now that it's end of life, it will remain a big "first" in the history. Definition of classic includes a thought that you're still able to use it after given period of time, in this case 10 years, and that it's still delivering something that other similar range products won't....

46 +1, it allows to build anything. it's like the LEGO of sound. which is why i like the very simple effects they have. simple, but nice to combine.

Re: I nominate Martin Kellogg for banning

What the forum really needs is about 4 months of weekly group therapy with a lot of "It makes me feel like ______ when you ______" discussions followed by a simple 1 page 14 question questionnaire that will conclude we're all an alcoholic of varying degrees. it would not help anyone, but ...

Re: Choosing Macbook Pro i5 i7 core and speed specs.

i don't doubt the tests, nor your reading. it's just not really possible as far as i know the specs of those i7. but i'd have to check up on it. one thing that might have been is different laptops in the test (say i5 15", i7 17"), which could result in different termal behaviour => differe...

Re: AUTOMATION TO SESSION has been asked since 2002 8 YEARS!!!

well, at some point, they have to make a cut. they should encapsulate their engine so that they can have two "runtimes". similar, to how office 2007/2010 handles old .doc / .xls files easily, but actually one should use .docx / .xlsx, the new formats. they should create a new live that is ...

Re: Choosing Macbook Pro i5 i7 core and speed specs.

it can't really get a 30% advantage if all it does is compute up to 5% faster. not really fitting, that math, it is. i don't think they got the i5 to it's full potential due to some latency limit (that can make slower cpu's look much slower than they are, as they have more work to do just to satisfy...

Re: This forum needs to be more like a DAW

so we would have thread view, to allow the threads to show as they are connected together and ment to be, and clip view, where each post of each user is on it's own, and we can trigger and record to create own threads?

but yeah, the original idea is actually cool.
