Re: Warming up mixes
"To wit, overlapping frequencies can absolutely cut out harmonics and negatively effect sound quality as a result." Just wanted to add that all too often people take this (good) advice too far as well. Certainly each instrument needs to have it's own place in the frequency spectrum, but t...

Re: What feature in live 9 would be a game changer for you
Free,,, for all us poor souls who've had to put up with all the shinanigans of 8 since day 1.. Apart from that, all of the above.. Hd ..that would certainly be the fair/honest thing to do... even a year in and more.. L8 wasn't ready.. (also the "share" feature advertised when they ...

Re: Proper gain staging for live set
Set Ableton and soundcard to 0db then use the mixer to control the gain.
Set the gain knob to what suits and use the faders to adjust volume on the fly.
I believe Volume is THE most important thing in audio and often gets overlooked in the loudness wars...

Octatrack v MPC or Maschine?
Looking at the Octatrack sampler and wondering what makes it special?
People who have em say they are great but not sure what is so good about them ?
I guess its the workflow as usual.
Any experiences from users out there would be appreciated.
Thanks
B

Re: To Maschine Or Not To Maschine
I have only had horrible experiences with NI support.
Finally I had one guy promise me a $50 NI voucher as an apology but they never responded to my emails asking for it...
So business is business and the warning "Buyer Beware" is still good advice.

Re: Where to live: Melbourne or Sydney?
Sydney great but getting more like LA with sniffer dogs everywhere... Melbourne is the traditional home of electronic music night life and it has the Australian shipping ports for lots of things entering the country... Perth has some suprisingly good results with their DnB producers n crews Brisbane...

Re: How much can Operator really do?
BUT LIVE's preset change automation (chain selector) which i think is crappy crappy crap crap... is poorly designed for workflow and is ... broken !!! Works great for me. Have you considered the possibility you're not using it right? Works with knobs and dummy clips. Chain selector's a rack problem...

Re: How much can Operator really do?
Also, Operator doesn't slow down my workflow: It's ideal for making quick patches. It's integrated very well into Live. It loads instantly, it's is not CPU hungry, and I can change presets quickly. I agree Operator is excellent. BUT LIVE's preset change automation (chain selector) which i think is ...

Ben Binary - Yes. You hit record in the bottom left, wiggle the node about, then hit record again to stop it. Then in the top set of menus you hit a button called something like "assign" - I think it's the 2nd one along, sorry I've not got my iPad handy at the mo - and slide your finger t...
