Re: Stereo-widening tactics

Yeah, the only thing that strikes me as being too mono in the song is the lead synth like you say. Try Voxengo's free MSED plug in, turn the sides up 1dB and turn the mid down by the same amount. See if that helps at all. Thanks, I will try that. When I think about it though, it might be best to ju...

Re: Stereo-widening tactics

I will try all those things, thanks a lot. The synth in the track I posted is actually stereo. I've layered a few sounds and panned some hard left and right. Will the trick you propse work on stereo tracks as well?

Re: What should my RMS levels be when preparing to mix?

I think it's important to make sure you're not clipping on a track to avoid overloading a plug in that can't handle it, but I've never heard of any that needed a specific RMS value to properly. Maybe that's what you're thinking of? To be honest, I have not really thought that much about it. I've on...

Stereo-widening tactics

Hi, I'm working on a mix-down of one of my tracks, but when comparing to reference tracks, mine almost sounds mono. Mainly, my lead synth line sounds very "narrow" and I wonder what kind of things I could to do make it feel wider without cluttering things too much. I've added a bit of dela...

Re: What should my RMS levels be when preparing to mix?

I would think that any plug in that is SOOO dependant on input level would also have an input level knob or some sort of autogain to help compensate. Sounds a bit hocus pocus to me, but I admit I haven't used every single plug in out there. Yeah, you are probably right. I've heard both Ian Shepherd...

Re: New electronic pop album!

Hi, I think you would get more feedback if you link to one song and not a whole album. I had a listen to the first track, Worthless Teenager. I like the groove, and especially the bass sound. Would love to hear how you went about making it. Overall, it's a cool track with a well thought out arrangem...

Re: What should my RMS levels be when preparing to mix?

It doesn't make sense to me either :) Maybe he means just aim for -18dB RMS on the master meter? I personally don't see much point in worrying about RMS readings during a mixdown, as the only meter reading that counts in a DAW is that you're not clipping the master channel. Which is a peak, not RMS...

Re: The Breakup (slow beat melodic synth)

Again, thanks! And I totally get what you say about the melody being too straight forward. I've been fooling around in Ableton for a few months now, with no prior experience. But I do listen to a lot of music, and try to learn from this forum and other places about how to do it. Impressive that it ...

Naming of files when exporting all files as stems

Hi, when I want to export all tracks as stems I am asked to provide a file name. I want to give the files the same names as the tracks have, without any prefix. What I usually do is write an underscore where live asks me to name the files. But then all my files have an underscore. Is there any way a...

Re: Not my normal sound

Hi, i enjoy the sparsity of the track, and think the mix sounds good. The pulsating side-chain is a bit too much for my taste. I almost get dizzy. I'm probably getting old though. I would ditch the vocal choir since I find it boring. You might love that stuff though :) I would also vary the drums mo...

Re: The Breakup (slow beat melodic synth)

Hi, I just commented on your other track so I figured I could just as well listen to this one as well. How new are you to production really? I like how you mix stuff, punchy and clear. The melody doesn't do it for me, it's too straight forward for my taste. The track reminded me of some old games I ...

Re: Aces - synthesizer track

Hi, that's a quality production. The trumpet in the intro reminded me of Pink Floyd which is cool. I like the lead sound a lot. The way you vary the sound of it is nice. This track would work great as part of a movie soundtrack. The mix sounds nice and clear (I'm listening on Bose headphones). What ...

Re: Sometimes I like to compose when watching the sport

Really fat lead sound, love it.
Did not see that beat coming at all, and it work really well.
To my ears, the pad is a bit boring. I would like to hear a bit darker pad where the sound of it varies more.
Cool track :)

Re: Another total beginner here, first post, help appreciated.

Hi and welcome :) Well, the built in tutorials in Live are a great start, and the manual is really nice. If you instead prefer to check out videos I would recommend sadowick productions. He has some videos where he makes a track from start to finish. The most important thing however, is to make trac...

Re: Frequency response of professional tracks

Shimmer and air sound important :)
I'm not claiming this is necessary at all. It's just that I've heard and read about it from a few different sources now and wanted to investigate.
