shit, tone deft wrote his post faster than i did. aaaaaaanyway.... compressors are really neither time or frequency effects. they are dynamics effects. time = delay, reverb, flange... freq = filter, eq, phaser (well, when done with a comb filter) dynamics = gate, expander, compressor... .lm. sure. ...

I guess another way to tackle it is to consider that compressors (except multiband) don't care what frequency the signal is, it only looks at what the volume is and adjusts the volume accordingly. sure. but it has to seperate louder volumes from quieter inside the signal by analysis. and every sign...
