Re: DJ equipment suggestions for beginners.
Thing is guys, is I'm in Sweden. There is no Ebay and 1210's are hard to come by. I personally use vinyl and 1210's but wouldn't want to convince a kid's parent that they should invest 1000 dollars in 2 x1210's and a mixer for their 15 year old child. The digital options are cheaper and if the kid ...

Re: DJ equipment suggestions for beginners.
Like I said, we live in a place where vinyl and decks are hard to come by. Digital is a better option. I'm with JuanSOLO. You'll be able to pick up a decent pair of decks and a mixer and a few crates of vinyl pretty cheaply and it's a great way to learn the basics. If learning to scratch is a high ...

Re: Buying new Macbook Hard Drive.. Easiest way to clone?
It will create a perfect clone at the point in time you run it. As it's a clone OS X won't know anything about it. I did it a few months ago and didn't have any problems at all. Having said that, make sure you shut down all applications and network connections (remove ethernet cable, turn off wifi) ...

Re: Buying new Macbook Hard Drive.. Easiest way to clone?
Yes. As others have said get an external caddy along with the hard drive and then use CCC to clone current hard drive to it, then swap the drives and you're done.alexjholland wrote:Can I copy my entire Macbook hard drive INCLUDING OSX?
Syncing your data with your iMac is a different and should be done separately.

Re: ALAC / Apple Lossless Support
Live 8 does support Apple Lossless, so I'd guess you're doing something wrong - maybe the software you're using to convert them. I use iTunes to rip to Apple Lossless and have no problems loading them in Live. The Apple codec that Live doesn't support is CAF - this is used by Apple for all their loo...

Re: Anyone here use Apples Time Capsule?
Time Capsules are nice but way too expensive for what you get. If you can use an external drive either connected directly or over a (wired) network then it's a far better and cheaper option. I'd also recommend a Synology box. I've got a DS411J, not cheap at about £500 (including 4 x 2Tb drives) but ...

Re: Home Studio Advice
Thanks for the advice everyone, very appreciated. Should have probably said she's only 12 and I'm looking at getting the equipment for her 13th birthday. Maybe a bit too young but she's in to it heavily at the moment so I want to encourage her as much as possible. She basically knows nothing other t...

Home Studio Advice
I'm looking to get my niece a basic home studio setup, haven't got a clue what to go for as my music production is limited to messing about in Live mixing other peoples tunes and never actually achieving any end product. She's currently got two guitars (acoustic and electric) and an Emu PK6 Proteus ...

Re: finally... BITWIG STUDIO! beta soon...
I'm still kinda convinced there is some crazy shit going on behind the scenes with this. If someone had leaked those photos of Bitwig and said it was Live 9 everyone would have believed it, viewed it as a natural evolution and that they'd finally added all the most requested features. It's obvious B...

Re: Logic Pro 9 for $199. Futher pressure to lower prices?
Everyone is assuming that when Logic X comes you'll have to pay the $199 again for an upgrade but we don't know that for a fact. The iLife and iWork apps never had upgrade pricing anyway, Final Cut had a massive price cut when it came to the app store as did Lion. So it's possible there will be upgr...

Re: How to connect my computer to the internet.
Sounds like you have Virgin TV and broadband which goes in to your living room downstairs, with an additional TV feed to your bedroom. Does that sound right? If so, then the socket in your bedroom is for TV only - you can't connect to the internet with it. Easiest option will be to use the wifi. If ...

Re: [Laptop choice] Confused about current Intel CPU performance
I'm considering a Macbook, but would prefer to stay on Windows if possible. Whatever I get will be used for work and for that it's just easier for me to stick with Microsoft Office. The latest version of Mac Office which has just been released is pretty much 100% compatible with the Windows version...

Re: garageband instrument.
If it's an EXS (sampled) instrument then you need to navigate to it in the Live library browser then double click it, you'll then need to point it to the folder where the actual samples are stored. The folders you need (for the instruments and related samples) are in the following folder on your har...

Re: what to know to make software like Ableton
If you want to get up to speed on programming music software, a good place to start would be the source code for some of the main open source projects - something like Audacity would be perfect. Plus contributing to projects like Audacity would look really good on your CV if you're trying to get a j...

Re: Considering a purchase of Puremagnetik Bundles...anyone know
If you can afford it, I'd recommend their "all access pass". For $198 you get all their existing packs and all their packs released over the next 12 months, which means a minimum of 56 packs at under $4 a pack - you can't go wrong at that price. Quality wise I find them excellent, though n...
