Hard to say...

..as the new PowerBook G4 models include 1MB of L3 cache, a feature not previously available in the PowerBook G4 line. Should be interesting to see how the 800MHz unit stacks up, though - anyone care to buy one and let us know? :-)

new powerbooks

I read about these new PowerBooks this morning. I'd be very interested to see how the addition of L3 cache increases performance!

MacOS X VST plugins from Bias

I received an email from Bias today regarding some MacOS X native VST plugins for their Peak/Peak LE product. I tried a few of them out in Live. If you're running Live under OS X, you might find them interesting!

Beta3 - few things with reverb...

Now I'm going to have to dig out my old Basic Channel compilation CD and listen for that. :-)

Performance vs. Production

Gerhard: Live's ease of use is its greatest strength. I keep thinking of other ways to use it in both a performance and production environment. Adding ReWire support initially was a big selling point as far as I was concerned, and if adding MIDI support makes Live a better performance tool, I say do...

Cache, Cache, Cache

I am a 550 user, if you find out any more info on this, please post. Why is this?? The 400 and 500MHz PowerBook G4 units have a full 1MB of onboard cache, running at half the speed of the processor, whereas the new 550 and 667 units have 256K of cache running at the same speed as the processor. In a...

OS X and audio in general

My understanding is that many software/hardware developers are waiting for the official release of MacOS X 10.2, which is supposed to have more Core Audio support. Much of the cool possibilities are listed here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/technologies/audio.html I run OS X on three machines right n...

MOTU 828

I'm really considering the purchase of a MOTU 828 for expansion purposes. While USB is nice for a keyboard controller - or even the Tascam 428 - I can definitely see the advantage of FireWire connectivity.

yes, they are working

I suspect that both will be available by the end of this month. And no, I have no proof other than the "spring" timetable quoted by Tascam and the "after music messe" quoted by ablteton I haven't dowlnloaded the BETA though... it MAY be included in that... I didn't see anything ...

Works fine for me in OS X!

I'm waiting for the tascam support as well Dave. The main problem is that the drivers for the tascam don't exist yet, let alone the LIVE support., for OSX, which I love to run. According to this post at Tascam's support forum, Ableton and Tascam are working together. http://209.216.16.19/cgi-bin/ub...

When I saw the link to the beta late last night, I hoped it wasn't an April Fools joke! ;) I was hoping for Tascam 428 support - don't suppose it's in there yet!

Once you go Mac...

I've found the combination of Live, my PowerBook, OS X, and my Oxygen/8 to be almost unbeatable. :D Once Reason 2.0 comes out, I can be on MacOS X full time for production/performance. The USB MIDI implementation under X is good, and should get better when the next rev of the OS is released.
