Re: Behringer UCA222?

My Behringer fcb1010 is very reliable, and well below the price of competitors, my quad di boxes are also very passable for live sound and 1/4 what I would have paid. My wife's Behringer mixer is a bit crappy and I had a crappy fx unit off them. Hence me considering it could be very passable/a barga...

Behringer UCA222?

Hello. Anyone tried or have experience of the Behringer uca222? Any good? I have my nice MOTU but my wife hasn't written anything since she got her MacBook with only 1 input OR output port. Her old broken pc had a pci m-audio thing. Obviously it's cheap, but she doesn't seem to worry about audio fid...

Re: I am the king of making half songs.

Nothing of mine's completely finished. I've managed about a full demo song every 2 years, and have loads of parts of songs. My wife on the other hand has a dream, stands in a post office queue or drives about and a song appears in her head, then she sits down and has an outline in a few hours and a ...

Re: Apple versus PC

Oh no, not the Dual Core/Quad Core laptop processor BS again! No, no-ones still found me a PC laptop that's quad core that's running at near the same clock frequency as the dual core (whether PC or mac). The exceptions are false advertising; where the Turbo Boost speed of the quad core is given (not...

Re: Ableton Guitarists

I used to have the 1 Watt Z-Vex Nano head mentioned above. It was pretty damn loud! I could never play it late in the evening! It does the classic turned-up-to-11 Marshall Power tube (rather than preamp tube) distortion thing very well indeed. I kinda use more channels, changes, and heavier sounds t...

Re: Time signature problem

I have to know these things; I always seem to write funky tunes in wonky times, so you need 3 and a half legs to dance to them! I could only use Live 1/4 of the time until 7 came out with full support for time signature changes! If I'm really lucky I'll hit on a riff that's just syncopated in 4/4, t...

Re: Time signature problem

You can do this in Arrangement as suggested, also in session view if you put 4/4 or 5/4 in the scene name it auto detects and you can play with different times in session view (each clip has it's own time too). Same works for bpms, if you name the scene as e.g. "chorus; 5/4; 120bpm" it wor...

Prefetch of Clips?

Sometimes I get big glitches and dropouts on sections of songs when new parts come in on my Macbook which didn't used to happen on my old Hackintosh. Any ideas why? My old Hackintosh had OSX/Ableton on one 7200rpm drive, and my library/samples/songs on a second 7200rpm drive, and it was a 3GHz Core ...

Re: Ableton Live sounds lackluster (for my purpose)

Yep, Ableton tends to have quite dry presets. It's a nice change from most audio vendors who plaster everything in millions of FX to make it sound better, then you have to strip them off, and build them back as you really wanted. Makes them not sound as good as the competitors sometimes when played ...

Re: using 1/8" laptop output for DJ sets?

I'd say it depends on the laptop, and depends on the interface you're comparing it too. Some of the laptops at work make noticeable horrible whining sounds on the audio/headphone outs. Some PCs (or the mentioned macs) have much better ones. Then if you compare them to a cheap £40 "passable"...

Re: Audio Interface with REALLY short latency?

It's not much help, but as a reference of MOTU H/W and newer Macbooks I have a brand new Mid-2010 i7 Macbook and a MOTU 828mk3. Just did the "Driver Error Compensation" test yesterday. The best I seemed to get to guarantee no fuzziness, with the CPU load simulator on 80% (as the tutorial s...

Re: Ableton Live 64-bit, when?

I'm guessing if it needs major re-writing of lots of the code they'd just do it for Live 9? I guess it all depends when they're thinking of releasing 9. If it's a long way off then maybe there will be 64bit L8. If L9's coming "soon-ish" then there won't be a 64bit L8, it'll just be one of ...

Setting Up Core i7 Macbook Pro

Hello, I noticed my new macbook i7 is sometimes a bit glitchy with Ableton and sound cuts out quickly or I get a disk light, often when entering a new song section where new parts kick in. What should I do to minimise this? I currently have a Seagate Momentus XT 500GB 7200rpm hybrid drive (4GB Flash...

Re: Unplugging Macbook from Soundcard (Audio Disabled)

I wonder this too.

Would be nice if every time I plug my MOTU in/out I did't have to reselect it in preferences.
