But you can also use the autofilter sidechaining to get some filter action going.

Lives new compressor allows you to select the audio from, so you can have as many instances of the compressor as you like with the sidechain being fed from the same kick drum source. Plus, it doesn't mute your original kick track either so, you only need one and you dont' have to duplicate it at all...

Although I tend to record an arrangement into arrange view and then tinker from there. regarding your limiiter again +1001 as above, leave it until you're happy with your mixdown anyway, if you need to boost overall volume after that then some light ...

I do as per your first method. Clip up in session view and start setting some scenes. the nice thing about that is you can drop clips in and out and then select and insert the scene as a new scene when you like what you're hearing so you hear the build ups and the like.
