There was a promotion where you could upgrade Lite or Intro to Standard or Suite cheaper (up to 100EUR/USD less) recently and it ended on 28th of March. I don't know if it means anything for when future promotions might be announced. Maybe in June. Or maybe not. Or around when Live 10 is announced....

Thanks for all the help guys. I Think my first plan of action should be to buy Ableton Suite and mess around with it for a while. I'll also take a look at all the free/cheap vst's you recommended so I can get a proper grip with what I'm working with. After that it sounds like I should be looking out...
