Re: Am I the *ONLY* one finding M4L actually honestly unusable!?
Max is a kludgy shit show attempt at mimicking true programming Sorry, I can’t let this comment pass unchallenged. Max is a Turing complete programming language that has been around for a very long time (and is based on languages that have been around even longer). The fact that it does not look li...

Re: Am I the *ONLY* one finding M4L actually honestly unusable!?
Anything more than a couple of objects in a device and I step back to see what I've done wrong. That's insane, and certainly not even in the same universe as my own experiences. I'm curious as to whether the people in this thread who have these extreme issues are PC users. Oh, I'm not saying that d...

Re: Am I the *ONLY* one finding M4L actually honestly unusable!?
I totally agree that it's a very very clumsy and unreliable method of customizing Live. It's such a memory hog on account of it's pipes-and-devices layout and totally unsuited for professional usage, in my opinion. All of the commercial software pieces created in M4L that I've used have been horrend...

Re: Isotonik follow crashes liveset
I've definitely had crash problems with Isotonik products before, so you're not alone there. I just ended up moving on - I couldn't risk performances over it.

Where are you running into trouble with this? I've had nothing but luck monitoring metro object outputs in Java.S4racen wrote:Anything timing reliant is better off in the max world than JS....

Re: Help porting some software I wrote into Live / M4L
But, programming control surfaces feels awkward... That is my opinion, too. When I first started using Live for DJing I purchased a commercial template from Isotonik, but it was pretty terrible and crashed a bunch. I just don't think that pure M4L scales well beyond a small devices, so offloading t...

Re: Help porting some software I wrote into Live / M4L
Totally agree. The whole pipes and balloons thing is a way to maybe test a basic concept, but if we're dealing with real coding then let's code for real.

Re: Listening to ButtonElement and ButtonMatrixElement in M4L
So my initial response is that maybe assigning path using the .path property may behave funny as the LiveAPI object returns it as a string with quotes around it. So, if your path is... control_surfaces 0 controls 92 ...then using the .path property actually returns... "control_surfaces 0 contro...

Re: Old School APC40 questions...
Would really like to figure out if there is a way to access the 8 banks of device controls through the LOM. I've poked around with the lom navigator but can't seem to find anything. So you want to control device parameters/knobs/settings through the LOM, is that correct? If so that's totally doable...

Re: Old School APC40 questions...
I ported all of my MKI stuff to the MKII in a few hours. They are both massively similar, so try not to worry too much assuming you establish control/component numbers in a sane fashion. You can scope out the code for my MKII template. I don't think I have my MKI stuff online anymore. http://drewreg...

Re: APC 40 mkii (show clip currently playing)
I have something like what you are looking for in my MKII DJ template. All for free to download here: http://drewreges.com/?page_id=12 I setup the track select buttons for each of my four DJ decks to bring up the currently playing clip for view. This way with several different decks playing, I can b...

Re: Condenser Mic Recommendations for Guitar / Voice
A couple of years ago I purchased a Rode NT1-A from Zzounds. Comes in at $230 but you can probably shop around for a better deal. I primarily perform guitar and voice and this has been a great microphone. To be fair: it is my first proper condenser mic, but I absolutely love it.
