Live in a RAMdrive? (Nerd-o!)

So... my new laptop will have 2gb of ram, which is a retarded amount for a notebook in this year of our Lord 2005. Only my live set will eat up that much, so I gots to wondering if anyone has made a RAM drive out of excess RAM, and put Live on it? I dont get the thing for another 3 weeks so I can't ...

well, you can select the part you want to keep and press Ctrl-E (Split) then delete the chunks you dont want. Or adjust the start/end points in the clip.

Oh yeah, and RTFM :P

Sigh... If only it came with a giant round button that flashed "FLANGER" on and off.

That would rule. If you press it, you instantly become a DJ! :)

I should say RTFM. But, hit Ctrl-M and you will see a 'master' play button appear at the bottom of each track, assign that to a midi controller and it will play whatever clip is selected in that column. Alternatively, you can ctrl-M and assign any midi controller to play any clip by clicking on that...

A Korg Karma and an VX 3080 will be able to make almost any sound you can think of. I have a Karma, and it works great with Live. Yes its, deep, but in this biz, if you want to stand out, you've gotta put in the time to learn stuff like that. There is -no- way around it. Also, the majority of us als...

It could be that the cd->mp3 converter has a compressor or normalizer feature which made the music seem louder after the mp3'ing? Most people will assume that a song sounds "better" if it is played back louder than the previous time. Also, was he listening to CD's on a shitty walkman, then...

Hey Adam, it always struck me as odd that there wasnt a channel strip per se in each track ala Cubase (or any other workstation software). Nice read though, I'm a fact whore when it comes to things like this, and you have summed things up rather nicely :) Did you do any other comparisons while doing...

or is Live just a big fat pig?
Yes.

In Cubase, I could do around 4x the amount of VST's and tracks that I can in Ableton. I thought it would be the other way around as well.

i was just talking about that with a friend. I really dont want Live to become "that" app. The one that people are ashamed to use in public, because every act in the known world uses the same software. Time to step up the game somehow for my live stuff... I need dancing ponies, and firewor...
