On my 23" 1920x1200, what I think are the default widths of everything, with the doco bar (right hand panel) turned off, I get 17 channels, 2 returns and master.

As near as I can make out from listening to things people describe as "warm" they mean distorted, but in a way that sounds good to the ear. Lots of random harmonics, big roll off in the highs, etc etc.

"Best" for what purpose? Ubuntu is probably the smoothest just-boot-it-and-have-a-decent-desktop. Ubuntu Studio should be available soon. It's Ubuntu optimised for musicians. There's heaps of dists out there, finding the one that's best for you can take a while. Personally I'm a Linux From...

Going to jazzmutant.com and checking the Online shop reveals a going rate of a bit less than E2600 including VAT.

In Australia they're a bit less than AU$4300 RRP at awave.

Cycling74 has them for a bit less than US$2700 RRP.
