Adamjay, thanks so much for taking the time, and providing the screenshot! Your explanation was, in fact, what I had discovered on my own last night. It was a big "oops" on my part to have overlooked that row of channel buttons while in the assign mode. But, you know, I really appreciate i...

Oops. My apologies, gentlemen. I overlooked something, and have just fixed the problem. Many thanks for getting me to take a (much) closer look!

Adamjay, I still ain't got it. I've had the same question.

Assigning the way you suggest, I still find that hitting the selected button is triggering an entire scene, not just the intersecting point (clip) of scene and track. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks from a newbie,

Dr. Kant-- Yes, it's nice to share!! You might consider posting a description and the link on the main bulletin board, so that the topic is plainly labeled for UC33e users, instead of just buried inside the thread I started. Also I imagine if there's a special UC33e board somewhere else, they might ...

Hello again, Dr. Kant-- Thanks for the tips. I'm getting a little better, and it might be exactly what I'm looking for! A couple of things: is there a way to change the global channel label the way Evolution suggests in http://www.evolution.co.uk/support/uc33_setup_ableton_live.htm If not, maybe you...

Hello Dr. Kant-- Thanks for sharing your new app Assigned 1.0! I downloaded it, but I'm not sure I understand how it works. Remember that I'm kind of a newbie, and I think I lack some of the basic knowledge still about how different kinds of midi, sysex etc. all work. If you have any kind of tutoria...

Tarekith, I like your stuff on SoundClick! It's an inspiration to me, might impel me in another direction (among others)... Just curious, on Liquid to Solid, did you use a stab from Lowell Fulsom's "Tramp"? Funny if you did, 'cause I used the track as a background in one of my early pieces...

Thank you both, Mike and Komplex! I think what both of you are advising is patience, and that's advice I could really use just now! I can see now that it'll come, bit by bit, and becoming intuitive like the other instrument I play, for a living (violin) will be the ticket! Really appreciate it, peop...

Thanks, Tarekith! Wow, I googled the Mackie C4. $1000, huh?? Oh well... That scribble strip is pretty nifty, it would exactly address my question. In its absence, I'm back to the drawing board. My problem is that my work is quite free-form ("atmospheric" and using elements like background ...

Midi controllers: How do you keep assignments straight?

Hello all-- Another newbie question, this time about midi controllers (I am just starting to use a UC 33e with Live 4). Can people share how you keep all your assignments straight? Do you keep a lot of it in your head, write it down, and if the latter, in what kind of format? A little background: I'...

I agree totally about the book. I'm getting my mind around a lot of things I only half-learned from the Ableton documentation. I do think maybe the authors should have included at least a starter collection of goodies on CD, the way so many writers do (as a fantastic example, the CD included with Ku...

Hello again, all-- Since I haven't had any replies to my previous post, thought I might follow up. First: I have read the manual on warping, also the pertinent sections in the new "Power" book by Carrier & Hill (excellent, by the way!!) and I'm still getting nowhere. Don't be afraid to...

Warping frustration

Hello all-- I'm basically a newbie, so please be charitable. Also, I'm more interested in doing impressionistic live mixes rather than really tight rhythms, but I don't rule out the latter as parts of projects, plus I'm trying to get a handle on manipulating Live as a whole. So here goes... I took a...

Plus, in fact the X-Session looks like it has more trigger-buttons, which I might prefer for my purposes. If it's trigger buttons you're after - why not try the DM2 with DM2MIDI software? I use mine (still waiting for my UC-33e to arrive...) to great effect for triggering clips and other functions....

So, as promised, a few quick impressions of Macworld: By now y'all probably all know about the Jobs intros: the "headless" Mac called Mac Mini (not only no monitor, but no keyboard or mouse either), 6x6x2 inches, really extremely small, $499. Also the iPod Shuffle, a Flash unit (512 mb or ...
