Fair enough - although for accuracy, we're talking about playing or DJing with Live, so as long as your levels are in the 10% ballpark then it should be cool :) Ableton could also implement and Upper & Lower limit to the voloume faders (same as they do with the Song Tempo range) which would make...

The one on my Korg Prophecy is pretty accurate... and that's a 7+ year old technology.

If they can manufacture a trackpad for a PC/Mac laptop then I'm sure a vertical strip shouldn't be too hard?!

About f*cking time to ... Proof is easy - stick a photocopy of your (Beatport, whatever) credit card transactions in your gig bag; or they can borrow my mobile and call the guys who wrote the tracks. Besides - surely they can''t demand proof on the spot? Prove you own your pants?! Pirating music is ...

motorized faders

Hmmm... and earlier post got me thinking... they've got Rotary Encoders, why not Linear Encoders? An row of LEDs next to a thin touch sensitive strip? Or even better, some way of combining the LED readout & the touchpad together? No bulky motorization, all the benefits of software-linked faders ...

The music I DJ is essentiallly disposable... some tracks are classic, but on the whole these tracks get played for no more than about 6-12 months before being replaced by new music. And the bulk of this music is obtained from the artists as AIF/CD files or bought as WAVs from beatport. On the other ...

That would be useful - but a feature like 'loop in place' would be easier & only requires one more button on the Clip Parametre window... Being able to loop a section of a track and trap the playhead and then release it would be sweet :)

The x-session is fine if you don't need a tonne of control... I use Ableton to DJ and the cross fader makes for a GREAT pitch control (tying the laptop into vinyl). As far as the knobs go I have it split into 4 sets of 4 knobs for 4 channels... level, hi-cut, lo-cut and send. Then channels 1 & 2...

Just throwing in some more advice - NEVER do free work. Despite countless promises of "oh yeah we've got bigger jobs on the horizon so do us a favour now like" ...this NEVER pans out. One more time for the people now; NEVER. F*ck everyone - they want music or enginneering, they pay for it....
