Re: M4L.envfol~ abstraction

M4L.envfol~ is probably the coolest and most wonderful little abstraction in the entire M4L.* series. it is a fantastically controllable yet simple and powerful envelope follower to use in your devices. for a demo of it working in a m4l device, just go to your library: Max Audio Effect/Tools/Max Env...

Re: Max API devices lose target after reloading set.

hi there. ok, i can confirm, on 5.1.9, that those basic live sets of tutorials with the api are not working. as maurizio says, all max api devices have lost there target settings. these tutorials definitely used to work for me, as i remember checking them all when they came out (5.1.7 or 5.1.8 i thi...

Re: Max API devices lose target after reloading set.

oh my god. this sounds like the dreaded nightmare max 5.1.4 pattr bug back again! please no!

...i'm gonna go check stuff and report back.

in the meantime someone should tell jeremy bernstein just in case.

p.s. - does rolling back to 5.1.8 fix it?

Re: Please, someone confirm or deny

well, i have a lot of sympathy with 3dot. i loathe the whole intro/suite/basic/pro/advanced versions and addons worlds of commercial software too. for a start, such multi releases should be known as 'normal', 'shit' and 'shitter (what do you expect at that price)'... however, i totally understand th...

Re: pitch analysis to parameter.

that is a fantastic and very funny response from 'galaxiesmerge'. whilst it is mainly true, i suspect there is a wry grin there somewhere behind his/her post, as the OP's question is so so common, they should really have searched the ableton and cycling 74 forums first to get a more pragmatic answer...

Re: Please, someone confirm or deny

"yes" (that is from horse's mouth) just users with Max6/M4L2(?!) with NO 'gen license' will not be able to build/edit anything 'Gen', but they will be able to run and use patches / devices which happen to use 'Gen', and even 'view' the 'Gen' code. personally i think that is rather fantasti...

Re: Max for MIDI generation

Max was built for this exact purpose about 25 years ago, and has been doing it pretty effortlessly ever since. this means it also has a massive pile of user generated content behind it. your coding background means you will either love how it is basically like a graphical 'C' (except with all I/O an...

Re: Please, someone confirm or deny

hi 3dot. it is a great patch. in your [p bcr2000_knob] subpatcher you use the "M4L.SignalToLiveParam" BPatcher abstraction as is. yes, it would be nice if it was easy enough to just have all these API abstractions that come with the distribution be more easy to suit to various different ne...

Re: Please, someone confirm or deny

@trevox, '3dot' was referring to multiple [live.remote~]'s, and yes, these can be a cpu hog. the reason? they are audio rate. which is fantastic if you need it here and there. however, often you do not - you simply 'downsample' the data going into [live.remote~] and performance increases drastically...

Re: Please, someone confirm or deny

"confirm or deny" is not possible, because it shows you assume that there is a black or white answer, which there is not. this also shows how you do not know max/m4l, as if you did you'd realise that it is all dependent on what you are programming with it and also, how you do it. this is o...

Re: Urgent sfplay~problem

firstly, i would not use sfplay~ to playback 47 min files, but only out of superstition, not reality. why don't you just playback in live and poll the playhead time to a m4l device for your osc? (there will be latency anyway). at first reading your post i thought this would be a good old manual buff...
