Re: Set default note length for melodic step sequencing?

OK, let's see if I can be a bit more clear. :-) I'm in melodic step sequencing mode. I hit the 1/8 button, so I have 8 steps per measure. By default, each note I enter sustains for the entire duration of its step. I don't want that. I want each of the 8 notes to only sustain for the duration of a 1/...

Set default note length for melodic step sequencing?

When doing melodic step sequencing with Push (1 or 2), is there a way to set the default note length for new notes? I know I can adjust the length of individual notes either as I add them or after they've been added, but that's tedious for patterns of more than a few notes.

https://www.ableton.com/en/manual/using-push-2/ Note that it's not a seperate manual, but it's own chapter in the manual. Saw a few people were having issues finding this though, so figured I'd link it for you. WEll worth a read. I hope they'll update the downloadable PDF manual soon. Chapter 28 in...

Re: Things you wish you knew when you started....

1. 99% of everything is crap. The sooner you get through your 99%, the sooner you'll get to the good stuff. In other words, make LOTS of tracks, and don't get discouraged because you think they're no good; the fact that you KNOW they're no good is actually a good sign. :-) If you do enough work, you...

Re: Puzzling issue - anyone know what's up?!

Pretty inconsistently, ... the CPU all the sudden spikes up to insane values (22.000% and such) the audio doesn't really crackle but basically slows to a crawl. That problem only goes away again when I restart Live. So wait a second. What do you mean by "restart Live"? Do you mean when yo...

Re: soundflower only captures in mono in ableton?

Make sure the input channel you have selected in the audio track (the chooser box just above the "Monitor" label) is the stereo one, i.e. the one labeled "1/2" instead of one of the ones labeled just "1" or "2"

Re: Library Missing

Make sure you don't have anything typed in the search box at the top of the browser pane. If you have two or more letters typed in that field (that don't happen to match the first letters of anything in the library), it'll look like everything is gone.

Re: CPU Going crazy since few days

While researching a different issue, I noticed that Live 9.2 regenerates the "sample analysis" (.asd) files for any samples used in a project created in 9.1. If you then switch back and open the project in 9.1, those .asd files get regenerated again. So each time you switch between 9.1 and...

Re: Live 9 with Mac OS X FileVault2 disk encryption?

Thanks, Steko for that list of links and hacktheplanet for confirming fdesetup is the relevant utility. Fishmonkey, up to now (or actually, sometime in the near future), I have been using individual encrypted disk images for storing sensitive documents. However, for a variety of reasons, that's beco...

Re: Live 9 with Mac OS X FileVault2 disk encryption?

Thanks for the replies, folks. My understanding is that it's easy to turn FileVault off and have it decrypt everything if it causes problems, so I'll give it a try. It won't hurt to get comfortable with the command line in case FileVault takes a shit and you need to use the various recovery tools to...

Live 9 with Mac OS X FileVault2 disk encryption?

Years ago, Apple introduced FileVault on Mac OS X (10.3 IIRC), which encrypted your home folder for security in case your laptop was lost or stolen. Pretty much everyone agrees that it was an unmitigated disaster: it was slow and prone to failure, locking you out of your own files. So much so that i...

Re: You got to show the muse you are serious

A lovely podcast on creativity and inspiration I agree, it's a great segment. I've (unfortunately rarely) experienced the effect of things just going so right that it's almost scary, like it's someone else taking over my playing or composing, and other times when I couldn't hit the right note to sa...

Re: Files are Gone- Ableton live 9

If you mean "gone" as in nothing shows up on the right hand side of the browser, make sure the search field (just above the browser) is empty. If there's an X in a circle on the right hand side of the search field, click that to clear it. If you (perhaps inadvertently) entered something in...
