SubLikka is right. You shouldn't have to have anything but the pedal. Just assign the MIDI controller to the the play/record button on a clip slot. After looking throguh the archives, I found a decent work around, at least, for exporting automation data, and that is "copy envelope data" or something like that from a context menu, when clicking on a clip in the arrange track. Just copy the automation data, and paste it into the Session...
