Absolutely. So I spent a lot of time last night with the Reason 4 demo -- pulling up old tracks of mine, and running them through the new compressors and mastering tools. I also pulled down the Massive demo -- and yeah, the sound detail and bigness can't really be matched. But Reason def. sounds MUC...

Ok, answered my own question here by watching the video -- the MIDI keys trigger patterns, basically. Dur.Naive Teen Idol wrote:That's really cool to hear. I was wondering how the loops v. hits layout worked. How do you make the internal variations of the loops? Is it like a MIDI file within a MIDI file?

That's really cool to hear. I was wondering how the loops v. hits layout worked. How do you make the internal variations of the loops? Is it like a MIDI file within a MIDI file? Thinking about Reason 4, still -- one advantage? 2GB install size v. 33GB for Kontakt (which is amazing, but beyond what I...

Thanks -- I did notice the Live 7 upgrade suite and thought about it some. But I feel like some of that stuff (Analog, etc.) may not be uber-necessary given the other things I own. Then again, it's pretty cheap. As for Reason 4, thin? I thought the thinness of the sound issue was taken care of in 3....

Diving Right In: To Buy Reason 4 or Kontakt 3?
I used to use a computer with Reason 2.5 and Live 3 -- it worked very well together. I would often sequence stuff in Reason and drop it into scenes in Live. I was very comfortable in that setup. Flash forward to today where I have an Intel Mac, Live 6, Reaktor 5...and a busy job and newborn baby. An...

My first instinct is: I agree w/ this. I went from Live 3 to Live 6, skipping 4 and 5. That was an enormous jump. But adding drum racks and a few instruments isn't. I'm sure it's a fine product--and I might yet get it (the suite, most likely)--but this doesn't exactly seem like a Great Leap Forward ...

Amazing that every time Micah posts something, there's four pages of complaining about their subscription policy. At the risk of sounding like a Republican, get a job, people. Anyway, I just had a chance to play with this for once. Good stuff, yet again. Really enjoying the step seq stuff... I'm par...

Stepping Thru the Chain Selector -- How's This Done?
On Puremagnetik's Retroputer, the step sequencer works by having a chain selector range -- where the orange bar is set at 1 but there's an orange dot that steps through each of the subsequent steps and resets at 16. For the life of me, I can't figure out where that range is set or how to change it. ...

I downloaded the Mac OSX one last night -- it installed fine, but I haven't used it yet. One thing I'm interested to know is if there's anything out there that allows you to use a touchpad like you would a ribbon controller: not just to move left right, or up down, but to do trills where you hold, s...
