make sure your audio preferences in live are set to an ASIO driver. i tend to get big latencies when programs are trying to use MME drivers

but you honestly can just record the audio straight into live. the directions above look AOK to me, although i usually just: launch live, launch reason, then select reason as the track input, and arm recording. slightly different sequence, but hey...

yes, you should solo the track, it will not render only the track you have highlighted to select the time frame

i would encourage you to give live a shot for sequencing/arranging, it's pretty nice!
