Re: My Laptop keeps Crashing (Memory Dump)

That's your Realtek driver, which will be your onboard soundcard.

Try disabling that device in device manager, and update your audio interface drivers too!

Re: Why is WINDOWS way better than OSX for Music Software?

Man, I should have known better than to reply to a topic like this...I guess it was inventible that it'd turn into a slagging match.

Since this thread crops up AGAIN and AGAIN, and new users also ask it, perhaps we should make a OSX/Windows pros/cons/similarities sticky?

Re: can i

I think you can do this by holding left click on the clip in arrangement, press tab, and dragging it into a clip slot.

Re: Crashing session: out of memory

Live is a 32-bit application, which means it can only address 3Gb of memory. It sounds like you might be hitting this limit, which isn't related to CPU usage. There is a 64-bit version in beta, which will address more memory - perhaps give it a shot? https://www.ableton.com/en/articles/ableton-live-...

Re: MIDI CC volume compression

Do you mean like an LFO to modulate CC's? Max for Live has some plugins that will allow you to do this.

I use M4L with to modulate parameters on my Korg EMX.

Example...

Hope I've understood your question correctly...cheers.

Re: My Laptop keeps Crashing (Memory Dump)

Hi, What VST are you using? Can you try installing a free VST such as Synth1 to see if the issue is replicated? Can you try without the audio interface, to see if it an issue with this? When the memory dump appears, is there a STOP code that accompanies it? Something like 0x0000007b? this might tell...

Re: Why is WINDOWS way better than OSX for Music Software?

I think each platform has its benefits and disadvantages. Apple systems have limited SKUs so this means that the hardware is consistent, you pretty much know what you're getting with a Mac. Windows systems are highly varied, so even if you have a great spec on paper you can end up with a sub par tra...

Re: "Locked" greyed out buffer size, can't do performance test

Your buffer size won't be controlled by Ableton, it'll be handled by the Focusrite driver - look for a control panel/utility that was installed with the Focusrite, that will allow you to change the buffer size.

Tell me about it! Yeah you could "rewire" Reason into Ableton, I did this once but wasn't very happy with the workflow...I try keep everything Ableton these days. Have a look at this at this, I've heard people mention that it's good. http://www.kvraudio.com/product/easy_drum_x8_by_easytoolz

Re: drum sound problems

Alright Dave, I learnt about creating drum tracks with a hardware step sequencer and I still find this much easier than using Live's MIDI editor. I'm quite happy using the piano roll for chords or melody, but for some reason I just can't get a good beat down with software. It's probably because ther...

Windows 8 Touchscreens

Hi All,
Wondering if anyone out there is using Live with one of the new Windows 8 touchscreen laptops?

I quite fancy the idea of using one until Touch comes out...I'd like to launch clips, adjust filters, Analog/Operator settings.

Can anybody comment whether it's useful or not?

Cheers

I agree! I have had to contact NI support on a number of occasions, that is a nightmare...Ableton support reps seem on the ball.

Perhaps another way would be to duplicate the track, and then group them together to tidy them up a bit...? Just a suggestion...

Re: Ableton Push: Questions & Answers

Hi Jesse, I'm wondering whether the Overdub feature of Live has been revised for Push - can we replace MIDI notes instead of playing on top of existing notes? This would make it more like a hardware style groovebox pattern - set the fixed clip length and keep trying takes until you get it right. Cur...
