why would some one purposely pay money for sonar? i could see why some one would buy logic or pro tools over live but sonar? its like a generic of cubase. Many reasons: 1. 64 bit mixing engine (most accurate DAW mixing engine in the market, even better than Pro Tools). 2. AudioSnap (kind of like Li...

I tend to do parallel sequencing in Reason and Live. Using Live to record audio and VST and sequencing Reason's devices in Reason. I find using the Session view with Reason a bit cumbersome in some cases though (you will need separate midi controllers for Reason and Live to do what I am doing and a ...

I think Ableton will be fine as long as they improve the controllability of their program, with things such as, 1. Better softsynth input monitoring (Most other programs you don't have the arm tracks to hear what you are playing. A lot of other programs have an auto input monitoring function that au...

1/16384th notes not good enough for ya? ;) I believe you seek the adaptive grid and the zoom function I like in Sonar how you can use any time resolution by typing in tick values. They have presets for the commonly used ones like sixteenths, 32nds, and eigth notes, but by using tick values you can ...

I don't thing velocity is Ableton's biggest problem (if it is even a problem at all for that matter). The biggest 2 problems I see is: 1. Too much reliance on the mouse. Not everyone has a good midi controller. Things like Auto Quantize have no good keyboard shortcuts to get to it. 2. Live's Quantiz...

I have an Se 1X and use it for basslines a good bit of time. It also has nice smooth leads.

Be sure not to install it too close to other modules as its circuitry can overheat and cause tuning problems.

Wanted features

Some features I want in Live pertain to the ability to allow more control in Live's sequencer, and softsynth implementation. What I would like: Sequencer: 1. The ability to set default new clip lengths. I tend to make eight or four bar loops, sometimes two bar loops, hardly never a one bar loop. Thi...

I'm new to live and would like to get up and running. Are there instructional DVD's/ CD's or online training, etc. I read about one at Berclee School of Music but that was $1200 for an online course (way over my budget ) I'm relatively new to Live too and have some questions on using it. I am basic...

New Live user questions

I have some questions about using the Ableton Live as a midi sequencer. My main objective is to compose songs Live using midi synths here are some questions: 1. In the session view is there a way to predefine pattern lengths. I am having a hard time loop recording in Live because afterwards I always...
