Try loading an instrument into the track you want to record from...You can't route audio from a an empty midi track.

I have problems with this as well, though I wouldn't say it sounds like "crap"... It just sounds much thinner and more "smashed together" when I render a multitrack mix in Ableton as opposed to Logic 7. Even with single, solo'd tracks there's something lost in the render, and it'...
