i have a FA101, which i think has the same preamps in it. .

it can be used for line ins (not just XLRs) and one even has a Hi-Z / Lo-Z toggle switch.

maybe this is obvious, but make sure there arent too many programs that are automatically starting up at login (see "login items" under the User section of Sys. Preferences). those guys can be sneaky.
