Please tell us which operating system you are using. And which version.
Please recheck the problem with the most recent version 8.4b2 that just went online.

You should be getting the 8.4b2 with automatic updates, please verify that the problem is fixed with this version. If your problem persists, please add a new thread to the topic.

We have located this problem, and as mentioned in another thread its because the extensions are missing in the installer package. resolved by downloading the runtime library manually. I am closing this thread since it is a know issue and fixed in the forthcoming betas.

Observed Behavior: When I switch from any 32-bit version of Ableton Live to the 64-bit version of 8.4b1 (or vice versa), I am prompted to enter my password. If I cancel I see the error "You cancelled the authorization process. ReWire support was not installed. Restart Live to try again."....

Please add a new thread adding more information on the crash, if it persists. We can't reproduce this crash on neither OS X nor windows with both 32 and 64 bit versions of Ableton Live. I am locking this thread to keep overview of reproduced problems.

Hi, I can confirm the runtime extensions are not included in the installer package. This is resolved by downloading the executeables as stated in the KB article or the direct links from ScuzzyEye. This will of course also be fixed on our installer side in the upcoming betas. I am locking this thread...
