The performance depends on the used RAID controler (chip). Using modern disks and controler will give a very good performance for direct attached drives.

I started using the Live 1.0.1 version about 5 years ago.

And again Hard Disk Overload Indicator on and high CPU in 6.0.2b10. This software is very (un)predictable.
