Re: What's your practical memory ceiling in Live 8 (32bit)?

OK, thanks for the reply. Nice you're able to squeeze some more juice out of it! Thanks for the jbridge tip - forgot to mention I also rely a few M4L devices I've built so 64bit is no go for me at the mo. I have Kontakt Memory Server going which helps offload some mem usage, but Live still seems to ...

Re: Completely beginner question regarding MIDI setup on Ableton

It sounds like your options are set up correctly in Live... You might want to check whether you're receiving MIDI in a different program - if you are on Mac, MidiMonitor is a good one, on PC I think MIDIOX should do the trick (both are free just google them). This will at least tell you whether it's...

What's your practical memory ceiling in Live 8 (32bit)?

Lemmings and gerbils, Curious to know you practical memory ceiling with 32bit Live. Yes, I do know the 64bit beta is out but I'm not ready to make that switch yet as loads of my plugins are not yet available in 64bit. On an iMac (2.8 quad-i5, 8gb RAM) I can reliably make Live crash at about 2.7gb RA...

Re: Turn any surface into a playable MIDI controller

it makes me wonder if you could use a few and have the software work out where you are playing on the desk by how loud each one is or something and track pitch like that? this one seems to be a bit more advanced.. can't wait to try it.. http://createdigitalmusic.com/2012/01/with-just-one-contact-mi...

Re: Turn any surface into a playable MIDI controller

Thank you all for your comments! I will be updating the software frequently and this sort of user input is extremely useful in driving development. Some of the features you mention are already on the to-do list, plus some other neat ones too! If there are any other features you would like to ...

Turn any surface into a playable MIDI controller

Fellow music-makers, The Pulse Surface Controller System is a hardware / software solution that liberates computer-based musicians and performers from conventional input devices by allowing a surface - i.e. desk, laptop, objects and more - to become a playable MIDI controller. An included piezo micr...

Re: Live 8 / Live 7 CPU usage comparison

...and I'm still here compiling code. :? all this got me thinking that perhaps running the Live 8 Performance Test on the various flavors of Live 8 could shed some light on this. I know your concern is Kontakt but as for Live itself that might shed some light on things. all I can do is dream of hav...

Re: Live 8 / Live 7 CPU usage comparison

8) in hindsight I'm just killing time at work waiting for code to compile. this has got me thinking that just trying Live sets in different versions could be enlightening to the developers. we could infer that the tightening up of the codebase involves more CPU usage, are they aware of how much mor...

Re: Live 8 / Live 7 CPU usage comparison

feel free to ignore me. ;) it's crap like this: Bump! The Ableton QA team really needs to investigate.. This makes it impossible for anyone working with deep-sampled Kontakt instruments to do any sort of serious work with recent versions of Live! this is just buggin'. it's naive to think Ableton ha...

Re: Live 8 / Live 7 CPU usage comparison

What new features? Vocoder and Cabinet? .. Optional M4L? if those are the only new Live 8 features you can name you don't know the software very well. Let me make this analogy instead - the bigger garage you have the more likely you are to fill it with useless junk. yep. as a hardware engineer I se...

Re: Live 8 / Live 7 CPU usage comparison

After all, shouldn't software become better and more efficient over time, not the other way around? It seems developers are learning to take for granted increased processing power, rather than try to code efficiently. this is NEVER the case. new software, more features, more CPU hungry software. bi...

Re: Live 8 / Live 7 CPU usage comparison

To OP, I understand that 7 works faster, but also there are possibility that it depends on what OS you use. There are actually cases that Kontakt works 5 times better on Win7 than on OSX. Look into the page liked from below thread. http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=172825 Thanks for ...

Thanks for listening and the feedback! I happen to work in the game audio industry, maybe I'll shamelessly plug it into a project somewhere (and not tell anybody)..
