Re: Need help identifying this time signature

To me it sounds pretty clearly to be 7/4 - (or 4/4 + 3/4.)

Re: Handheld recorder for sampling percussive noises

I'm a big fan of the Tascam hard-disc recorders as general-purpose portable recording devices. I have the DR-40, which has some useful features - mic pre-amps and balanced inputs, so you can hook up real microphones; fairly decent built-in mic capsules; the ability to record 4 tracks separately; hoo...

Re: Written music in the digital/electronic age

If you write music that you want other people to play, being able to notate it as sheet music is often the easiest and most direct way to convey that information to other players.

I have been running Mavericks for several months, with a MOTU Ultralite III and Abes 64-bit. No issues at all, very stable.

Re: Mobile recording/ recommendation

I'm not sure about the Zoom recorders, but I have a Tascam DR-40, which does 4-track recording. I'm pretty sure you could load a 2-track mix and then record a vocal track against it. It's possible the Zoom recorders can do the same thing. The Tascam has been rock-solid out in the field, and the buil...

Re: Using onboard Macbook Pro audio instead of NI Audio 8?

If you're only using two outputs, and don't need the multiple ins and outs of the NI Audio 8, then the only real benefit would be if the D/A converters in the NI box are better than those in your MBP. I'm not familiar with the NI interface so I can't answer that question for you - best bet might be ...

Re: Putting together a new laptop-based studio/live setup

Ableton is ideally suited to what you are describing. One tip for getting deeper into Ableton is to download and try out other people's templates - you can learn a tremendous amount from doing that. There are tons of resources, including (of course) this forum. One more tip - since you're currently ...

Re: Putting together a new laptop-based studio/live setup

A couple of suggestions: - To modify what Tarekith said, be careful adding too much gear all at once. You have a good selection of controllers, but you'll probably work your way up the learning curve more quickly if you focus on just one or two of them, get very familiar with how they work (or how t...

Re: Can you have multiple arrangements in one song?

I find that a lot better to manage than jumping back and forth between different versions within the same set (how would that work)? One way this could work (and this is a thing I would love to see in Ableton Live) would be to have Pro-Tools style multiple playlists for each track. In case you're n...

Re: Question About Recording With Returns

I've had a bit of luck sending the return to an audio track and recording that separately in its own audio track but I feel like there should be a better way. I don't think there's a better way. You want to record the processed audio coming from your effect pedal - sending it to an audio (rather th...

Re: Rupert Neve 5088

You have asked several pretty big questions - I'll try to answer them as concisely as possible. 1) A general picture of signal flow (digital recording): Microphone -> microphone pre-amp -> (optional hardware processing, i.e. EQ or compression) -> Analog-to-Digital convertor (ADC) -> computer - or - ...

Re: DUB MACHINES, Anyone?

Magnetic sounds incredible! Best tape-echo emulation I have used by far, and I have barely scratched the surface of what's possible with this device. I'm running it on a MacBook Pro 2011, Mac OS 10.9, Live 9.1.2 64-bit - no problems with excessive CPU load for me. I did a live performance a couple o...

Re: Push can browse Komplete 9 Ultimate, UAD, Soundtoys Presets

Hey, folks - Just want to say that I bought Queglay's pack of presets for NI Komplete as well as the Maschine 2.0 and Expansions pack, and they work great. I had a small problem with the install, and Queglay emailed me very quickly with the correct fix. I don't doubt that buying this saved me severa...
