Use Ctrl-D to duplicate the clip instead of dragging the clip endpoint in Arrangement view, as you've noticed dragging doesn't duplicate automation. Modern and shiny? What the hell does that have to do with making quality music? I know it makes f*ck all difference to making music ... but I wish Ableton looked more modern and shiny..
