thanks for the replies. sinnatag, your method looks very cool, a bit intimidating. It looks like each beat you wanna chop has to have some preproduction and I'd need two extra tracks. I'm definitely going to go through the tutorial, but I'm hoping to wind up with something that can take any source ...

the impulse transpose is *always* stepped by semitones. even with a controller. I'ld post a picture but it's really not that important since... however, you're right, they are different. impulse is set up so that transpose only affects a sound at it's attack. so if you play a kick with a very long ...

??? yes, it is always stepped by semitones in impulse. Not when you're using a midi controller. But as I said I don't think that is the real difference since the transpose/pitchbend in sampler sounds horrible when pitching drums. (see edit) the only difference i see Try to listen then and judge for...

thought you meant continous, not stepped The sampler transpose is always stepped while the impulse one doesn't need to be, for example when using a midi controller. (edit here) ok, I've been testing this and it really doesn't amount too much at least for what I do. you can transpose simpler and sam...

pitchbend Not the same as the transpose in impulse. Now one thing that is very nice about impulse is that it's very easy to repitch the drums by ear during a liveset. You can go from gritty slow lowpitched beats to uptempo pitched up hihat grooves with the same kit. A lot of fun it is. Add a delay ...

Yeah, I agree this can be a bit confusing. I believe that there is a relatively sophisticated (confusing?) system in the drum racks in order to tell each cell what data to respond to, so you can actually set a range of notes to filter into one cell, etc. Further, I believe that the note range filte...

This seems like comparing apples and oranges. Why not just use impulses in the drumrack instead of simpler or sampler? The impulse is a soundshaping tool, drumracks are just a really helpful way to arrange sounds into a pad interface with unfoldable tracks, etc. Each cell in the drum racks can only...

Badass&Sinnatagg - TheReturn Liveset
I always do something new at each gig and this week I threw this thing together for tomorrows OK Computer @ TaxiTakeaway in Oslo. It's a bit of fun really. http://sinnatagg.synth.no/mp3/Badass&Sinnatagg-The.Return.Rehearsal.20080724.mp3 That is a short run through, warts and misspellings and eve...

Yes you can, I don't know about SL3, but you can in Cubase 4 (as well as the previous SX versions). You use the select tool (number 2), select part of a waveform and drag. Works just like Live. Also, it doesn't matter if you do that to a part or event, it always works like that. Must be a cubase 4 ...

Actually you can do the exact same thing the same way in Cubase. Select the selection tool, select stuff and drag it. Hold option (or ctrl) and drag to copy the selection, etc. Works exactly like it does in Live! Just to let you know. :) But the cubase has two types of clips (event and something el...
