Re: Master output behaves like it had a permanent bitcrusher...

Have you tried playing with your audio buffer settings under preferences? Could be popping from not enough, or a buffer length size your computer doesn't like.

Re: Sidechaining to layered kicks

When you have multiple kick drums in a drum rack with other instruments, there's no way to do this. If this is really what you want to do, then I would duplicate your drum rack and use one drum rack for only your kicks, and then use the other for your other drums. You probably want to add some compr...

Re: Out of sync

On the top there's a bar that by default says '1 Bar'. It's just to the left of the pencil. Go to it and select 'none'. This will allow instant (minus latency) playing and stopping of your tracks.

Re: Triggering sounds w/ violin?

You could use a sidechained gate on a operator, set for a square wave output. Than you could use Pitch to MIDI Vst. I've heard Melodyne will do this, but there are also plugins like this around: http://www.knzaudio.com/index.php?midifier.

Re: Any tips and tricks on getting a good chopped up sound?

I agree with Vios. Do it in arrangement view. Freeze your MIDI track or record out the audio then manually chop, transpose, repeat, and reverse the audio as much as you want. Yeah, really the best sounding things are usually done manually. Freeze and flatten your MIDI, drag the looper selectors in ...

Re: Transition Tracks

If I understand what you want to do correctly, you could warp the track normally in Live (such that if you pushed play it would play the entire time at the same BPM) and then use tempo automation to change the speed of the track in Live. Is there something more complicated you were looking to do?

Re: techno mixing?

I like this one: Claude VonStroke Tips and Tricks – One Hour of Techniques from Claude VonStroke! Also note that when it comes the "mixing" stage of a track, mixing techno isn't very different than mixing any other genre. I may have to dodge some bullets when saying that, but you can learn...

Re: drums

There's a "rule" in sound production: If the drums sound bad the track sounds bad. There are a ton of small tweaks that improve the sound of them. Here are some tutorials to get you moving forward:

Re: Acoustic piano / studio grand downtown?

If you have a good soundfont player, the piano included in the Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra pack is pretty incredible (and free): Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra (scroll 2/3 way down to find link) (If you use a PC, the SFZ player works as a great free soundfont player and there's a link to it from the ...

Re: Consolidate/export individual track wavs

As far as I know, there's no way to export the stems without the effects applied via Ableton's export. A pretty easy way around this would be to make it habbit of putting all of your effects on each track in an audio rack. Then map the on/off of all of the audio racks to a midi button. Then one hit ...

Re: The hardcore setup - any advices?

You can take your song in arrangement view, chop it up into bits, and then use follow actions in session view to construct an automatic or semiautomatic live set. I think the second half of this tutorial especially may give you some ideas. Widened my eyes as to how to work between producing in the s...

Re: Can't Lock Down Effect Manipulations

Why are you doing the effects manipulations on the master? You can't record audio from your master (except to export). Send the audio you want to manipulate to one or two audio channels and put the effects there and manipulate them, then send that audio to a final audio track and record it there.
