Re: Mastering Fail - Thinking about giving up now after 7 years.

- Way too much mids and highs in the overall sound of the song. - .... you've got WAY too much compression happening, and it's not helping the song at all. I'd suggest removing all the mastering processing you have, and focus on the mixdown first. Maybe post that for some feedback before you start ...

that wouldnt be fair. i might distract him from his heavy production schedule of putting a kick and a hi hat under an acapella and calling it a remix

Re: What are some of the better compressor and eq plug ins

i mainly use it on channels / groups (drum bus etc..). very rarely use it on the master. its fine with sidechaining for me, although the inbuilt ableton compressor has a lot more options with the sidechain, so depending on why you're sidechaining it might be a bit 'simple'. of course you can send yo...

Re: Guitar in from Motu 828 MKII volume increase?

I was never happy with the input level on my MKII with my passive pickups, so i bought the behringer tube ultragain box :

http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/MIC200.aspx

its pretty cheap and really good, especially for behringer :)

i dont think the mkII preamps are any good by themselves.

Re: Driving Live's meters into the red

the fact of the matter is clipping is always bad (at least in a software context). jtdj has got it spot on - don't clip, anywhere, and in the long run your tracks will sound better right, clipping is bad, but driving any track except the master into the red doesn't mean its clipping. as Tone says y...

Re: Most Underated Ableton Plugin/Tool

yeah, but thats not what i'm saying :) by 'different mixes' all i meant is different volume / pan settings. e.g. you have a hi-hat channel, you might have one chain at -3db, panned 30L, another chain with automated fades on the volume etc..then you just use the chain selector to choose one of those ...

Re: Most Underated Ableton Plugin/Tool

wait sooo...I'm confused about how to do this or what this does for you. an empty rack? an empty rack with an empty chain. each chain in a rack has its own on/off, volume and pan, also the rack itself has an on/off switch. so you automate the chain settings rather than the main mixer settings which...

Re: Operator's improvements

the only request i would make is to allow setting envelope times in beats rather than just milliseconds. I realise that the current system doesnt use linear time scales on the display, so you couldn't just stick down grid lines for 1/16th notes or whatever, but there could be some kind of snapping. ...
