Re: ** I know I've posted about Skrillex... **

Speaking of Skrillex: Backups, backups, backups, people. Redundancy is your friend. I back up my projects everytime I'm done with a session. I have 3 hard drives (1st: system/programs, 2nd: Projects, 3rd: Samples/project backups). I can't stand the thought of losing hard work. And it's always good ...

Re: Question: The Speed of Human Hearing

It's still safe to say that we perceive the world as it was, not as it is. Which technically, is even true with what we see , since the light has to travel from an object to our eyes, and then get processed by our brains. So in a way, we're always looking into the (very, very recent) past. Somethin...

Re: Question: The Speed of Human Hearing

Awesome question. It makes sense that everyone would have their own unique "latency," even if it's really damn small.

Ugh this is horrible news; you could always learn something from what he had to say, and he was truly a chill guy. He'll be missed.

Re: Affirmation please

You're good enough, you're smart enough, and gosh darnit; people like you. I think you have a great combination with the LP and iPad. Check out touchable - http://www.touch-able.com/Site/touchable.html - and get it up and running. Then you can run faders and sends from your iPad, while having clip c...

Re: How to move your arranged tracks to live session performance

Yup...this was a total gamechanger for me too. I did a presentation at a meetup a few days ago spreading the word about this approach. Anyone who wants to play their own tracks at gigs needs to know about it. One note about sends/returns: Tom doesn't cover it in his video, but there's a way to get t...

<< I played a show once where the local opener erased all the lighting presets from my controller because they were upset they didn't have a long enough sound check. >> Seriously? That's some incredible douchbaggery there. Kinda sad that on top of everything else, we have to worry about other artist...

Re: Tuning

Yeah, spectrum usually works best for this kind of thing. I also like Voxengo SPAN (freeware). Here's a VST tuner: http://www.samplerchan.com/ ...haven't messed with it too much, but it seems to work. The problem is that these instrument-oriented tuners can get squirrely down in the low end. Watchin...

Absolutely foam will help. Get these ASAP and you'll be good to go, as far as vibration-isolation is concerned.

Re: Cable Length

Yeah thus far I've never found myself in a situation where I needed more than like eight feet to reach the snake, mixer, or whatever audio input the venue is rocking. But again, it's good to have the flexibility, so go if you think you might be playing on stages that need more footage go with someth...

Re: Cable Length

It depends on what your snake is going to, but you definitely wanna err on the side of caution here. It's better to have cables that are too long than none at all. I use around 10 feet, just for running from the club's mixer to my audio interface. Optimally it's good to have two pairs: one that's sh...

A gate on the vox input, then experiment with the threshold. It might take some added volume on your part, but gates are tailor-made for situations like this.

Yeah...FWIW, it runs rock-solid on my Windows XP system. I can't vouch for its stabilty on OSX. Line6 seems to be pretty good at driver updates, though.
