Most lap tops today have actually fairly half way decent built in interfaces.... capable of doing 24 bit 96,000 recordings. The only issues that I have heard of would be with ground loop feedbacks but if you don't have that I don't think anyone including yourself would know the difference.

Thanks man, I was originally gonna do it with knob controls... then was gonna do pads so the pressure change would turn a knob.... but I decided the best would be to do an xy pad because you have so much more control

Uuuh I would highly suggest getting into flattening all the tracks in your songs and then triggering those... this way you can trigger any part of any track at any given time. It's not nearly as hard as it seems and it will give you a lot of control over where you want your performance to go.. Also ...

Yea it was really designed to be used with a controller with 16 pads where each pad will send a cc message with a specific value... most of them allow you to do this...

It works well enough with a rotary encoder, I can see why it'd be too sensitive with a regular knob though
