Re: Question about using Hardware as MIDI
I’m guessing you are wondering how to connect the Casio MIDI input and output to a computer. You can not use an audio cable or an audio connection for MIDI. MIDI is not audio and audio is not MIDI. You need a MIDI interface that has 5 pin DIN in and out like the Casio and also has a USB plug that co...

This thread might be useful for reducing Live’s load on the Mac’s video system:

Re: Avoiding third party plugin crashes during performances
- Turn off your wifi and disconnect from any internet app or account that could interfere with your CPU managing audio in real time (like iCloud and Apple Store on Mac : I solved many click and pop issues by just disconnecting from my iCloud account. I'm sure Windows have some issues too, like auto...

Re: Struggles we are going through
The less constraints/limitations I have, the less I finish things. I’m the same. Which is one reason I prefer working with hardware synths and instruments rather than just software. Once the hardware has been recorded as audio I usually remove all the MIDI tracks and commit to working with just the...

Re: MIDI 2.0
And have you tried to use controllers on USB hubs? I do it all the time, without any problems. USB's 3 m 5 metres, I believe. And extendable by using powered hubs. Any ethernet system for MIDI would need to be able to cheaply and effectively convert ethernet to USB and ethernet to 5 pin DIN to stan...

Re: MIDI - no audio output to freeze
MIDI is not audio. It is instructions that tell a MIDI device what to do. MIDI can not be processed like audio because it is not audio. From what you say it sounds like you need to record the audio output from the DTX into an audio track or send the recorded MIDI to another instrument, maybe a softw...

Re: Compressing Drums. Why Do It?
Drum samples might have been compressed and eq’d as part of the sampling process to give the user sounds that work i na mix with little additional processing. For example, bass and tom tom sounds from the fabled 808 and 909 sound rather basic and a bit weak unless compressed and processed with eq, w...

Not tried it myself but I was browsing M4L for something else and thought this might do what you're after- https://maxforlive.com/library/device/5087/cc-converter

Re: Where to store tracks, temp folder with dual-drive setup
SSD lifespans seem far longer than what was originally suggested years ago. I used a single Intel SATA SSD in a PC then later in a TB2 case for both recording to and storing the audio and user library for many years and it still checks out OK. I've had several HDDs fail over that time. The "Dri...

Re: Why is Live sending 16 Pitch Bend messages on the first launch
I've just checked this using MIDI Monitor, and yes, Live does indeed send out 16 pitch bend messages. MIDI Monitor gives the "data" of each instance as 0.
Curious. I've never noticed this before.

It's also a good idea to work through Live's tutorials.
It might be useful to know if you're using a PC or Mac and which version of the operating system.

Re: Mac vs Windows 2018
Having recently done an experimental boot camp Win10 install on a 2020 27” iMac I’d say scrolling is the least of the problems. Three or four days of it was more than enough, especially as a few games I have that worked on Win8.1 and would have liked to play again don’t work in Win10, which the deve...

Re: Launchkey 25 mk2 Sustain Pedal as Kick Drum?
You can do that so long as the Launchkey lets you program the sustain pedal to play a note rather than its usual function of sending a sustain command - sustain is a MIDI Continuous Controller (CC) function, not a note. Usually it’s CC64. You would need the pedal to send whichever note the kit uses ...

Re: specific question about the gear I have (connecting multiple audio interfaces)
If the Mac has Thunderbolt sockets a firewire device can be connected using Apple’s Thunderbolt -> Firewire adaptor. I’ve connected my UFX to TB2 sockets that way and to a TB3->TB2 adaptor -> Firewire adaptor and both setups work flawlessly. You would then need to use Audio/MIDI Setup to combine the...

Re: Moving User Library from Mac to External HD
I’ve always had the user library and assorted packs on an external SSD. As jur says, it’s a quite simple thing to do. The only thing I’d warn against is using Finder rather than Live’s browser to shift stuff around. Using Finder sometimes seems to result in Live’s icons being replaced by the standar...
