Using sample snippets for bass?
I was wondering what your opinions are about making additive basses using a looped sample snippet in simpler. For example, taking one cycle from an 808 and looping it, then layering and using saturator to add more harmonics. Are there any problems with doing this that would make it a worse choice th...

Re: Tuning sampled kick drums, a necessity or not?
I'm just citing rick snoman's dvd (which is just one approach of doing things). Are those Vids any good? I've only watched the drum one, it was ok. He spent an hour talking about making and processing a kickdrum which I found interesting, but only because I like making them. And he showed a few tri...

Re: Tuning sampled kick drums, a necessity or not?
not necesarly the peaking freqs, but the sustain part. globally a kick is a pitch down sweep as u said, and most have no 'pith' or note at all, so don't need tuning. but on end tail or release you can get few cycles of same frequencie that have a pitch especially in synthetised ones. to be sure you...

Re: Why my CPU gets constantly frozen??
What do you mean by frozen? As in it overloads? My CPU used to overload to 100% and higher, I solved the problem by getting a cooling fan to put under my laptop. I have an inspiron 6400 with windows xp. Maybe your laptop is overheating like mine was? If it is then try elevating it on a pair of books...

Re: Tuning sampled kick drums, a necessity or not?
According to rick snoman, a dance kick's dominant frequencies should match the key of your song (doesn't necessarily have to be tuned to the root), he also mentioned that 90% of kicks in sample libraries are dissonant or have phasing in a mix. Some kick samples also play a sort of chord. If you chec...

Are my attempts at synthesis futile?
I recently got a hold of some virus multisamples, and after hearing some of the bass sounds I started wondering whether or not softsynths are even worth it. It seems impossible to recreate the same weight using softsynths, I'm using primarily V-Station and z3ta+, and not even the presets come close....

Re: Z3TA+ not rendering audio in Ableton Live 8.2.1 at 2.0x
Definitely sounds great, I just haven't gotten around to learning it fully. I'm mostly unable to do stuff like load custom wavetable sets, and presets from older versions sound broken. But all that aside, it was money well spent. I was able to freeze and drag to audio after setting both offline and ...

Re: Z3TA+ not rendering audio in Ableton Live 8.2.1 at 2.0x
I recently bought version 1.5.3, but I haven't rendered anything from it yet. Given all the bugs and annoyances I've encountered so far I'm not surprised. Have you tried recording the z3ta track to an audio track as a workaround? Or maybe freezing it and dragging the clip to an empty audio track?

This is shocking and saddening news, I didn't know him personally but I truly appreciated and loved his help on this forum. His shared knowledge and kindness will be here for others to see and through this he will continue to help others who seek help. I've learned a lot from his posts and I'm sure ...

Re: tech house sub bass
For example when I layer kicks, there is some frequency overlap between the two samples that might make the waveform have imperfect cycles. It's something you see when you look at the waveform. I'll use some pics off google search as an example: http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://homepage2.ni...

Re: tech house sub bass
nice! Will have a read through that, cheers Just got an oscilloscope which might be handy for checking wave forms http://www.kvraudio.com/db/s_m_exoscope_by_smart_electronix and a couple of spectrum analysers trying to keep stuff separate s(m)exoscope is definitely handy, it's one of the most valua...

Re: tech house sub bass
I found a topic on mnml.nl which goes pretty in depth about sub bass. Since the site seems to be down right now here's one of the posts: (but it's worth reading the whole topic, so check it out when it's up again) He also mentioned somewhere that you shouldn't use samples for sub-bass. As for eq8, d...
