There is probably a M4L solution for this, but it can be super tedious when trying to fit different situations. Assuming you're in 4/4 to keep it simple, basically, triggering a clip record should happen on beat 4 (or beat -1 if you preffer) instead on beat 1, and then, if you re-launch the clip man...

To me, a looper with overdub always on and some trick to punch in/out the source into it would work as long as you are ok with defining the loop length in advance.
