Audio interfaces with 4 separate inputs?
I'm running out of inputs - now I need to use 4 at the same time, and still retain a compact form-factor, if possible. Any recommendations esp on the budget ones are welcome!

if processing power is not an issue you might be happy with an external display and spare the change for hookers

Re: connecting guitar and shure sm58 to Live with Dell Latitude
you need an audio interface, of which there's a big variety both for your needs and your wallet.
if all you want is just to simultaneously record 2 mono signals (or 1 stereo) - you'll be fine with most any 2-channel interface. yes, it will record to separate tracks in Live at once

Re: Doubling guitars and avoid phase problems
phasing is not a mastering problem - it's a mixing one
if you've made 2 recordings - they are not likely to be phasing out
however, if they do you can try eqing them differently, or just offset the time, as someone just mentioned

Re: How does Girl Talk get such clean samples?
there's also a neat phase trick - isolate left and right channels of the stereo track, invert the phase on one of them. then bounce to mono. bam! center (where lead vocal usually resides) is gone

^^
utter bullshit
you need eq, compression, tape saturation, slapback delays and spring reverbs, attitude and knowledge of mixing

in an untreated room sub will introduce more problems than clarification.
you don't really have to invest in proper monitoring in that situation either.
just get to know your current speakers well - listen to music on them, compare your mixes with professional ones

Re: Monitors and Headphones for Mixing - Advice required
a really general advice that obviously does not suit everyone would be to cut everything below 30Hz and shelve down 16-20kHz area, or even cut at 18kHz as higher frequencies tend to introduce artifacts during conversion to mp3 and lala
