Both the EWI USB and EWI 4000s work fine with Ableton. You'll need a MIDI interface for the 4000s (no USB connector). Your cable looks fine. Is there a software mixer as part of the Saffire installation? If so, crank up the gain (or trim) on the inputs from the iPad.
