Re: guitar pedals as effects sends
Not quite pedal related, but if it's reverb your after and you've got the spare i/o the basic Lexicon units work amazingly well using the External Effect plug-in trick described above. I've got a pair of old MPX100's set up on sends A & B on my default template. The quality of their reverb still...

Re: I need to block BASS so my neighbours don't get mad
There have been some good suggestions already, but I wanted to share some of my own experiences with this very issue - being both a bassist and a drummer I've been down this road more than once. I apologize in advance for the long post. For starters, there are different approaches to stopping struct...

Re: For bouncing to tape, will ANY playe do?
Yeah, the question is how much do you want to downgrade the quality? If you're looking for "analog mojo" you can get it without completely ruining your frequency response, dynamic range, and signal-to-noise ratio. I've had a fair bit of luck with some of the better cassette 4-tracks that r...

Re: turn down hi hats on a drum wav file?
If you've got a lot of overlap between the hi-hat hits and other drums subtractive EQ will be less noticeable (but also less effective) than volume changes. It's always a trade off. If the snare is panned right up the middle and the hi-hat is panned off-center you might try M+S decoding and then sel...

Re: What are the Moogerfoogers good for?
The Moogerfoogers are cool effects pedals, but they're not necessarily better or worse sounding than other brands in general. To be honest I think a big part of their appeal is their packaging - they're just plain cool to look at. Their CV features are what really sets them apart - it gives them a l...

Re: Moving the computer out of the studio
I think you might be over-engineering your solution here a little bit. If you're worried about excess heat build-up, why not just try a partial enclosure/gobo-type deal? Maybe something as simple as a couple of pieces of foam or 703 on a hinged board that you put between the CPU and your mic. Fan no...

Re: Converting Acoustic Drums To Electric
You're welcome! I've actually always wanted to try this kind of conversion myself, but as of late space has been at a premium and even a be-bop 4-piece kit is just too big. I did have one further thought. Every drummer has a different take on these things, but for me the achillies heel of electronic...

Re: Converting Acoustic Drums To Electric
Not really an Ableton-related question, so you might get a better response from one of the electronic drum forums. That being said, it's not an uncommon or difficult thing that you're asking about - except for the cymbals. Many live drummers I know stuff their shells with cotton/foam/etc and use aco...

Re: Bass is too loud, tips???
It's hard to really know what's going on without hearing an example, but you've already gotten some solid advice covering the usual issues. If you're still struggling here are two somewhat left field tips which might help in your situation. First, a trick I use often when mixing a track with overpow...

Re: iMac vs Mac Pro
Mac Pro's do allow for massive internal storage but FW drives are almost as cheap. These days you can get RAID boxes that connect via thunderbolt, so I dont suppose the old speed advantage of internal vs external storsge really matters anymore - though I havnt read any reviews of the few available ...

Re: Any *hardware* synth recommendations for UNDER $US 500
+1 on the jp8080 (or jp8000 if you need a controller). Nice sounding and pretty flexible, and available for $500 or less in good condition. The matrix-1000 is my all time favorite hardware synth, but it has no realtime controls which I think the OP wants. Actually, come to think of it the two comple...

Re: iMac vs Mac Pro
I've used both with Live and for me there are three main workflow issues which would determine which one might be better for you. First, how much CPU power do you really need for your projects? If you're a heavy plug-in user and you tend to use multiple instances of CPU-intensive synths, then a Mac ...
