I too have created my own solution similar to this. My brother who does carpentry made a custom designed board (about an inch thick) that fits perfectly on top of a Technics TT (the most commonly used in clubs around here, of course). I put that on the TT, then put my cooling pad down, and then the ...

This is true, I won't be using it to that extreme all of the time, but I do plan to use it to do much more than mix one song into another; the whole reason I would use Live is for its improvisation abilities. So, there is still some concern that i'd want to do things in my set that would just roast...

You could key in the tempo with tapping so it should not be so hard to do this live. I've seen DJs use Live this way, instead of pre-processed beat mapping (generation of .asd files). Most laptop drives are just now 30Gb or so, compared with lightweight Firewire drives of 160Gb and beyond. It's act...

It's also up to us DJs and sound producers, we should request good sound from the systems we use. Just going along and play lossy MP3 files over bad systems will not change the situation. --Kent It's really up to the club owners. They are the ones who set the budget. They usually get bids from seve...

Thank you
Much thanks to everyone who responded. I've done tons of research on both Live and Traktor, and I think I'll be going with Traktor now, and Live later (second lappy). The big deciding factor for me was that Live doesn't yet have support for Mp3's, so I cannot see using it as my main tool (I can only...

Live as a DJ application?
Is it possible to use Live as a DJ application? I know that would be horribly underusing its awesome power, but what if I wanted to just blend one track into the next all night long (beatmatched perfectly, of course)? Is this possible? If so, is it difficult to do with just Live, the lappy and a MID...
