Yes, you are right. All the cores were used. But we are not sure if there was highest cpu performance during the test. Did you check at what speeds your cpu-cores are operating ?
Did you check if all cores are being used ?

It is possible they are not operating @ 3.1 Ghz. Maybe your cpu is throtteling for some reason (perhaps heat ?)

Very good choice.
I think marginal difference is more in real-life. When it comes to music production and stressing out the cpu, you want every power you can get and then you will notice the difference.
