Slightly higher CPU consumption for sure. No discernable increase in pops or clicks, though. Given the increased functionality of Live 5, I would say that counts as an increase in performance.

So, any case of bass considered as central in a court case ? The 2 Live Crew case is as close I think you're going to get. Supreme Court justices aren't exactly known for their golden ears, so the riff in Oh Pretty Woman is referred to as the "bass riff" by the Court. You can debate wheth...

If you have something like sound forge or any wave editor it is pretty easy to simply raise you levels. Find a point in the song that has the highest peaks and use the volume plug to raise the level with out it clipping the sound. Undo your edit and then apply it to the whole song. Burn it to disk ...

Various courts have implied that taking a riff or bass line (simply playing it, not sampling) can infringe the copyright in a composition if the riff is central to the song. The classic example is the riff from Pretty Woman, though the Supreme Court declined to state if using the riff constituted ex...

My friend also reports problems opening my Live 4 sets in Live 5. I'll see what kind of error message he's getting--could be that we copied the wrong files to his drive. Thanks for your help, everyone.

Can a Live 4 set be opened in Live 5?

Conversely, can a Live 5 set be opened in Live 4? I'm trying to collaborate with a friend by passing self-contained Live sets back and forth on a USB key. He has version 5. I have version 4. He gets error messages when he tries to open my sets, and I get a "too many parameters" error when ...

press f10 before you hit record to take the set back to it's natural state, then when you hit record it will only record what you change What is F10 doing? I assume it's a shortcut for something you can access another way. I've also been curious about automation and overdubbing. I don't have enough...

Impulse question

Does anyone know how to route individual Impulse samples to separate outputs or busses? I always split kick/snare/hats/toms onto separate tracks, but I can't seem to get anything but a summed stereo mix from Impulse.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using Live 3, but I'll try it anyway. Is it a new "feature"?

Clicking in timeline for playback

When I'm working up sequences, I often want to audition just the last few bars I worked on. What I'd like to do: click the correct spot in the timeline, then hit the spacebar to play. Is there any way to work this way in Live? It's driving me nuts. Every time I want to audition the section I just wo...
