Re: Is using synth presets 'cheating'?
If there is no way to be 100% original, and no way to be 100% unoriginal, then any variation of originality is okay. This is a lot like the 'dj' debate. Ugh. Who cares if someone is or isn't 'djing' The audience cares even if they don't know why. Because to not "DJ", if that means being a...

And I thought I was the only one waking up at 4 AM all sweaty and shaking with an uncontrollable urge to order an analogue monotynth on Thomann!beats me wrote:My bank bot thinks buying music software at 4 AM is suspicious activity. GAS doesn’t have business hours.

Re: Multiple tracks using same instrument
Most instruments use the CPU on a per-voice basis anyway. So having two instances of an instrument on different tracks playing one note at a time each (monophonic) for instance shouldn't really use much more CPU than having just one track with the same synth playing the same sequence with polyphony.

Re: Proudly collecting music gear and software for no purpose
I ordered a Meeblip Anode. It’s even smaller, much cheaper and seems to sound pretty nice. My plan is to compose entire tracks (including chords with multiple takes) using only sounds from it. Limitations make creative I hear. http://www.schneidersladen.de/media/catalog/product/cache/1/ima...

Re: Adjusting preamp levels for a stereo recording (two channels
Do you look at the physical knobs and try to leave them roughly at the same place (12 O’clock, 3 O’clock…)? This is about the worst strategy of them all, especially with Focusrite's typical gain curves. I have a Saffire 24 pro dsp, and the gain knobs are quite logarithmic, meaning the last third of...

Adjusting preamp levels for a stereo recording (two channels
I always wondered how people do this. I’m slowly getting into recording stuff and trying to learn gain staging. For mono recordings things are pretty straightforward but what if you actually need to record two (stereo) channels at the same time? For instance when recording an iPad/iPhone or any othe...

Re: One year lost
The thief will probably try to sell the laptop. You just have to make sure you're the client. Keep an eye on Craigslist or eBay. Don't confront him and tell him you're the owner if you actually find it. He will just delete the auction and try again later. It sucks but you may actually have to buy yo...

Re: How do you clean your Push?
If you slack on dusting with the paintbrush or something less brush-able gets on it you can use a lint free cloth A microfiber cloth also works well as a dust cover for Push or other gear in my experience. They come in all shapes and sizes. Also they usually don't cost $45 without shipping and dama...

Re: Korg Minilogue
I made a promise to myself to keep it simple but the GAS is strong with this one.
Push and Live is all I need right? Especially now with the updated filters from Cytomic. I don't need ACTUAL analogue gear right?
Right?
Please?

Re: Why I'm leaving Live for Bitwig.
Your point is valid and in your case leaving the Live ecosystem is probably the best solution. That being said, I think it is unlikely that Ableton will ever support Linux. Too much legacy stuff made only for OS X and Windows and no real reason to add support (financial or otherwise). Especially now...

My 128G drive is almost full on my iPad. :) And I hardly have any music on it. :) It's because I'm lazy about deleting apps. :) And app sizes are massively ballooning without any real noticeable improvement to justify the drive suck. :) I'm sure the next iPad will have a 256 GB* option for just 100...
